What will you do in 2015 to prep? (was 2014)

I will get my FID! I have letters of recommendation dated 2012- I have taken the basic course 4 times! once with Husband, once with a friend who didn't want to go alone and once for each daughter. I grew up with a mother who was beyond liberal- you guys joke about socialists, she is a proud socialist- so guns were evil things made by evil corporations for stupid people. Funny thing is my Dad (divorced when I was young) was a Marine who saw action, he had tears in his eyes when I invited him to Veteran's Day at my son's school.

Cool story. I hope that you go for your LTC instead of the FID since I'm guessing that you are over 21, so go for it. [wink]

I'm going through my stored food and determining how shitty I am at rotating/guessing how much we would eat before it was well past expired.

The dogs and chickens are eating like kings.
You have chickens?? In YOUR neighborhood and town?? Wow... Never would have thought they'd allow it!

Selling the crap in the basement that has been there, untouched, since we moved 20 months ago.
Heh. We're going to have the mother of all yard sales this spring. Guy who owned the place before us never did come to clean out the barn.

We have chickens, since we have 2 acres we don't get crap about it, but no roosters. The snooty neighbors hate us.

Our neighbors love that we have chickens, even WITH Chiquille O'Neill (the rooster) crowing his tiny little brains out all the time... we give them eggs every so often. 5 very faithful layers giving us an egg each per day. And they're far enough away from us that they can't hear the birdbrain, anyway.

they only do that for a year or 2. get new chicks when they come in this spring, so your production remains in place

I started planning out my SQFT gardens and might build the boxes this weekend if the weather holds. I have to find a source for the soil materials still, but since I still have a yard full of snow I'm in no particular hurry. I do want to get going as soon as possible so I should get those boxes built asap. Oh yeah, and I should probably get some seeds.

I also bought a Vitamix blender that should be here today. I've been having green smoothies for breakfast everyday and generally eating food with actual nature-made ingredients and I'm feeling great. I'm looking forward to dumping a ton of veggies into the container, pressing the "Hot Soup" button and having hot soup a few minutes later.

I recently took the Survival Skills I class over at MFS.... pretty basic things, fire starting, fishing, setting up your BoB, etc.... Really informative for a greenie like me to get the basic understandings IMHO. Will definitely look into more advance survival classes. Living in an apartment building reduces my ability for other prep work like gardens, burying supplies, and the such.
