I did a license appeal today. A sad case in which the license holder's son figured out how to access his safe and committed suicide with a pistol. The police suspended the license bc the licensee did not remember owning the gun which traced back to him, and bc they assumed he must have improperly stored it. All his other guns were secured in two safes.
The police lawyer said the judge should assume the gun was improperly stored and that it must be negligent of an unlicensed person gained access. The client testified that the son must have found the slip of paper with the combination hidden in his jewelry box or found it on his phone.
The judge had no trouble returning the license.
