Funny you mention a Toyota Carina...

my first car in High School was a 1963 Chevy II...but

When I graduated for college and making a whopping $5k/year, I bought a brand new 1972 Toyota Carina - cost me $2k, brand new..

put almost 150k miles on it and sold it to my Brother in Law...and he ran it for quite a while after that...

    I had one, I think it was a '71 or '72.

First ever was a 74 IH Scout, first on the road was a '7x Ford Econoline (sans "free candy" lettering). Then the Dart, an AMC Hornet... '72 Mustang Convertible, '7x Beetle, '74 Mustang, '31 Studebaker, '66 Mustang, '87 Taurus, an '8x K Car of some sort, a '71 Mercedes, '97 Taurus, '91 Dodge Ram 250, '89 Sporty, '02 Kia Sportage, '89 Cherokee, '56 Thunderchicken, probably missing a few.

First "road legal" car was a 1963 Plymouth Valiant w/ a 6 cyl. and three speed stick.... bought it for $65. Drove it for a couple of years and then passed it on to my grandfather.

Talk about road legal. I learned to drive on a 1924 Dodge coupe. The body was gone except from the steering wheel forward and the seat was from a buckboard wagon. They had made a 4x4 pickup out of wood in the back. It came with the farm when my folks bought it. I would bomb around the woods on logging trails and range roads up on Pembroke hill all day long (NH) and really had a good time.
