I am always nervous about hauling something like that in the back, getting in an accident, and having those rail tracks become projectiles heading toward my head! Got to have some way to stake them down to the bed.

I agree with you valid concern.
The truck only plows my driveway, so the risk to me is minimal.

    ah, good.
back in the day they used to make these steel mesh screens to cover the back window of the truck cab. They could easily stop a bunch of steel pipes trying to crash thru after a sudden stop. But i have not seen one of those in a coon's age....not sure why no one uses them anymore.

Is that the newly redesigned 2018 Dodge Rapist? LOL.
    Just kidding man.

For some applications, you just can't beat the capability of one of these vehicles. The amount of time you save not having to strap things down, as well as the ability to add shelves and benches etc., making them a workshop and warehouse on wheels, it is no wonder so many tradesmen are using them. So much more space than the old Econoline style vans.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm a GC and I need the bed space open to put materials in it.

Nice hitch carrier, who makes it?

I was on the "Tour Germany by Deuce and a Half Plan" 1983-1985. The Squadron was supposed to have 35 of them. We were short, and my last job was in S4. Found a transportation unit N of us that had 12 in excess. We had two M151A1's and a truck full of driver there the next day!

I love the bobbed versions (think giant pickup) but they don't really make a lot of sense to own.

I don't know what you are talking about!

It has a 5 cylinder turbodiesel. Drove it 350 miles and the (24-1/2 gallon) fuel tank is at half. BTW it has windows in the slider door and rear doors, they're a little less secure but I like being able to see around me. So not really a stalker van.

Going in for mechanical service this week and body work next week.

    That is hilarious.

Great mileage. My truck averages about 20mpg, which I think is pretty good for a 355 horsepower V8, but that goes to hell if you haul or tow. But as a daily driver, the thing is a rocket.

    Hopefully this before too long.
In the meantime my 04 Dodge 175k has been treating me kindly.

2004 Duramax. I hit the halfway point of it's life in January, 250,000. It should get me to about 2030 give or take a few years.

It had the original windshield up until Christmas Eve 2017. Friggin Deer scared the crap out of me, I don't know how it survived. I drove it like that for three days, and nobody said boo.

Figured I better jump back into this one. Sold the f250 a few months back and picked up a 15 tundra. I should have done it sooner. I'm absolutely love it.

For those of you that have the full size 8ish foot bed and extended, crew cab, whatever larger cab...how do you like it? It's a longer truck so I'm curious.
I think I want one when I trade in my f250 regular cab. I need the 8 foot bed but want more cab space.

I went with the full size bed and extended cab (half doors) for my F150. I need a full size bed more than I need 4 full doors. Nobody has complained about the rear seat- it's plenty comfortable. Years ago I drove a GMC dually with full crew cab and full size bed, and it was a total PITA to drive around in the city and really bad to park anywhere. The extended cab isn't so ridiculously long with the full length bed and it's easy enough to park more or less anywhere I would park a car. YRMV...

That said, I towed equipment right at the max capacity and the extra stability from the long GMC was excellent for that.

I found that my 1999 F-250 ex cab long bed rode much nicer than my 2003 ex cab short bed did stock. The 03 got Billstein shocks asap, never touched the 99. Turning definitely sucked, but I've always been used to driving big vehicles. Just park in the. Ack of the lots with the other trucks

Extended cab, 8' bed. For me I wouldn't buy a truck without an 8' bed but everyone has different needs.
