This is for you Ross.
First off decide how big a BOB you are going to have. Hopefully the rest will chime in here too. Here is a start. I'll continue later.
At least a change of clothes.
Several pairs of socks so you can change them out.
Either good boots or decent sneakers.
matches
tent/tarp
sleeping bag
water filter
small camp stove
MRE's/food
flashlight
compass/gps
topomaps
First aid kit
550 paracord
knife

But somehow I don't think that you ment BOB trailers. (^_^) (That's enough camping gear for 1 week for 2 people by the way - including food.)

We don't have a Bug Out Bag per se, but each vehicle gets a cold weather kit (blankets, food and such in case the vehicle was stranded.)

The house has it's own 'supplies' in various places.

Most 'survival' type items are in 2 large rubbermaid bins that we can toss quickly into a vehcle. This is our camp gear, so it's used and repacked fairly often. I hate doing a lot of work to get ready to go camping, so I keep everything ready to go. The only thing I have to do is pull out the small gear if we are going to hike or bike, and the bins are organized to make that easy.

We've already set up a dedicated baby jump kit. It's a bright orange diaper bag all filled with roughly a day's worth of supplies. The idea is that if something happens we have it.

As for clothing for us, we each have a bag packed so that we can take impromtu camping trips. They are kept in the garage coat closet so that proper outerwear can be grabbed too.

But the real plan is not not have to evacuate. All efforts have been made to really make that a very last resort.

You'll need lots of batteries, windup/solar/battery operated radio, CAR15 and ammo. Water, baby wipes come in handy, hammer, nails, screwdrivers, work gloves, fold-up or wire-saw.

Just some stuff that instantly comes to mind.

Personally my plans are to "guard the fort". Moving around in a crises from this area to anyplace else is damn near impossible on a good day!

Is it bad news to keep a knife in a get home bag in your car any law's that I need to know of? Want to start a small travel kit for the road I put on 60+ miles a day on my truck time to start thinking safety.

Knives are fine aslong as you are not carrying them in your pocket (in which case most places its 3" or less blade-length).
if a cop pulls you over and searches and finds the blade then tell him it's for emergencies. I have a rather long blade and a window smasher in my center console, been asked bout it before, I tell them its for cutting my safety belt if my car goes into a ditch.

Somebody had to dig deep to find this thread. There's a wealth of info in the Survival Forum.

I couldnt find what I was looking for. You guys should give me credit for looking deep and not just starting a thread.
I could use some rep points hint hint.

Impromptu travel is an awesome thing.
It minimizes the impact of bugging out. You will have a good idea on what to expect. It minimizes the lists of things that you wished you brought or wished you left behind. It will also give you experience in reserving, checking in, and checking out of temporary accommodations (friend/relative homes, state campgrounds, private campgrounds, even hotel rooms).

One point I'll make is that if you BOB contains water.... be aware that it'll be ice when you need it this time of the year ;)

I have a few Nalgen bottles full of dehydrated water... Instructions say to fill with H2O, now I just need to find some... Or I can substitute the H2O with Dihydrous monoxide... Hope the latter is not dangerous...

Don't kid around you people. Dihydrous monoxide kills more people all over the world than almost anything else. [angry][angry] If it saves one life!!!

Dangerous stuff, and it's all over the place.
