other than repairing it (which I'll admit I'm far too lazy to do, and we already have another one anyway)...

anyone figure out anything useful to do with a leaky air mattress? are there places that take/repair these for resale or something? some other way to upcycle them?

    hate to throw it out...

There is no up cycling. Best you'll do is Craigslist it for FREE.

you could add to the MIT research, and find out if you can jump out of an airplane with only an air mattress

We had one a few years ago that had been used only a couple of times.

My nephew was coming up to Maine to visit on a busy weekend and my wife set up his sleeping space. Went back upstairs and it was flat so we called him and told him to stop and grab one on the way and we would pay him back. He shows up, she sets up the new one and he in turn rolls the old one up and puts it back into the box. Ask him how much do we owe you and he replies nothing. I'm returning the old one.

Personally I wouldn't have done it myself but we still laugh about it when he comes up for that same busy weekend every year.

Fill it up with helium and fly it around the room while playing Magic Carpet Ride and getting stoned out of your mind.

Then throw it out, it's trash.

I used to keep my car's pioneer tools wrapped up in a decommissioned snorkel jacket.
The idea was that if I had to crawl underneath for roadside repairs,
I had something to throw on the ground to keep me clean.

The coat finally started disintegrating after 20 years,
throwing gobs of lining and flakes of rubberized fabric everywhere in the trunk.

A few years ago I got a 30" Mountainsmith satchel at the KTP tent sale that fit everything.
And now I have a blue tarp in the trunk to spread on the ground.

We had a leaking Kelty air mattress that would have made
a bulky but sturdy emergency repair ground cloth.
Except that one side of the mattress was flocked,
and so it would have soaked up some water and mud.
It was so useless that even I pitched it.
    And that's saying something.

Go to LL Bean and get a replacement. Just tell them it isn't comfortable anymore.
