What kind of bug is this?

Not my hand, not my dobsonfly.

All three have aquatic larvae/nymphs.
On the one hand they are more ferocious than adults.
On the other hand, the young being aquatic I doubt
there are eggs in the house, let alone that they could
survive and grow after hatching with no running water to live in.

Their pincers do exactly that...ouch, but they make great trout bait.

The kind of bug that will kill you and eat your brain.
Only if he swims in cold, clean water.
As opposed to precisely the other kind of bug.

My father's Uncle John who lived in Fort Plain loved it when he visited to fish,
because my father would bring hellgrammites from the creek behind the church.

Girlfriend's got a phd in entomology, she confirms, stone fly.
Get a girlfriend who has a PhD in etymology,
and you'll be spelling it "stonefly".
