There are a number of threads here on the forum that discuss the merits of running away from MA and it's increasingly liberal government or staying and trying to improve things. I'm of the belief that running will only work for a while. Trouble always seems to catch up.
The reason I'm posting this, and declaring my belief, is because I was reading an article about Heller. Apparently he is allowed to carry at work but cannot carry at other times. His commute takes him through some tough communities. Basically his situation is not great. As I was reading the article I started thinking that "this poor bastard should just move out of that hell hole".
Then it occurred to me. If he hadn't fought the good fight, if he had just given in and moved away then we would all be worse off because of it. Heller is a hero. We all owe him our respect and thanks.
Maybe the next hero is living here in MA or in NJ or NY. Maybe the next time we think about encouraging someone to run we should think about Heller. What if Heller were an NES member? What advice would he have gotten? What would he have done?

I do agree that we need to fight from where we are. We shouldn't have to flee in order to exercise out rights. I'd just like to see some clear progress in our direction in MA. Comm2A is the main group that gives me some hope.

That said, I'm pretty convinced that people in the county are slowly and systematically reorganizing geographically around beliefs. Ultimately I think this is what will spark go time.

It did last time.....

OK kinda. It was already organized around beliefs. We are just going back to that same state.

My guess is he thought about it more than once but couldn't bring himself to leave due to job, family, etc. There are always going to be good people stranded in these places for a myriad of reasons. I didn't really think to dig into the issue that much when I met him back in 2009. I think his attitude was, if "I'm going to stay here, then why not fight this crap? " He was the only one left because they determined he had standing and the others didn't. (there were other plaintiffs besides Heller).

I'd still tell people to get the hell out of shitty states if they can swing it and make their lives a net improvement. It's not just about guns, either. Unfortunately not everyone has that luxury, or it ends up being a very expensive choice.

If he was smart he would have moved. Guns are only the tip of the iceberg. There are many other reasons why MA is a dump.

THIS!!!! X1.879 trillion. I'm still trying to figure out where I left my brains the day I decided to move to this hell-hole. Even if I ignore the personal factors that I loathe, such as every one of my communist in-laws being within a 5 minute drive and the terrible weather, we still have property tax, excise taxes when the "public transportation" is so awful that you can't live without a car if you're outside of Boston proper, terrible food, worse drivers, street layouts that look like our forefathers were smoking crack as they rode around on their horses trying to figure out where to throw the roads, every public employee is unionized, so nothing gets done right the first 50 times, the most ridiculously rude and drunken locals I've ever had the misfortune to encounter, corrupt and inefficient politicians, unjustified snobbery, horrible public schools that seem to thrive on turning out the next generation of pussies and the general cloud of gloom that seems to hang over everyone.

What do I think Heller should have done? I think he should have packed and left. At this point I'm not even confident that this country will be here at the end of the 40 years or so I've got left. I sure don't plan on wasting anymore time than I absolutely have to stuck in a miserable place trying to change it. I'm out ASAP and am going to enjoy the rest of my life.

This says it all. The gun stuff is just a perk of leaving MA. If you guys want to stay and deal with that shit hole, more power to you. I have never been happier then I am living in my new home of NH.

running away from MA is like running away from a virus....
fleeing will buy some happiness and time away from the socialist sickness, but ultimately fleeing doesn't address the issue at hand.
i don't fault anyone who leaves MA, but while I am in this state I feel an obligation to at least do whatever I can to preserve freedoms for the next generation.
