What happens if I get caught?

I am seeing a few threads on LTC restrictions and have just been issued my LTC A with target&hunting restrictions. (Still eagerly awaiting the actual card in the mail!) My question is, as the thread title reads, what happens if I get caught carrying and Im not on my way to/from the range?

I know there will be a bunch of different answers, Im looking for what some may have experienced. I have no intention of carrying all the time, its just that I have started night school in a not so great area. My 'nice' car sticks out and its evident Im 'not from the area' where classes are held.

Man, this is what I get for trying to get some real work done instead of reading this 24x7.

I was all set to recommend, before you do it, you set up a 7 figure retainer for the attorneys on this board (so they can hand pick the dream team of appellate specialists) in case you get caught and prosecuted.

As it is, you have gotten real legal advice at Scrivener's discount rate: One pound of humility.

Chapter 140 Section 131-a pretty much covers it:

(a) A Class A license shall entitle a holder thereof to purchase, rent, lease, borrow, possess and carry: (i) firearms, including large capacity firearms, and feeding devices and ammunition therefor, for all lawful purposes, subject to such restrictions relative to the possession, use or carrying of firearms as the licensing authority deems proper; and (ii) rifles and shotguns, including large capacity weapons, and feeding devices and ammunition therefor, for all lawful purposes; provided, however, that the licensing authority may impose such restrictions relative to the possession, use or carrying of large capacity rifles and shotguns as it deems proper. A violation of a restriction imposed by the licensing authority under the provisions of this paragraph shall be cause for suspension or revocation and shall, unless otherwise provided, be punished by a fine of not less than $1,000 nor more than $10,000; provided, however, that the provisions of section 10 of chapter 269 shall not apply to such violation.

And that's the most important part. You cannot be criminally charged with illegal possession just because you're carrying against restrictions. But the cause for revocation is still a big joy killer.

Supposedly, one cannot be charged with unlawful carry under 269/10 if duly licensed, yet the Fall River PD brought such a charge. Moreover, the DA's office went forward with the charge - DESPITE being provided with the a copy of the LTC and the revocation letter (dated 12 days prior to the charge being falsely filed). It even opposed the Motion to Dismiss.

For that matter, a PD is required to transfer firearms surrendered to it w/i 10 days of receipt of notice of transfer. Anyone tried to get a gun so transferred from Malden? Good luck.

Boston? It will send you a letter telling you your request must be reviewed and approved by several strata of superfluous people, from the Licensing Unit up to the Legal Department, to see if each will deign to comply with a statutory requirement.

Counting the on PD to even know the law, still less act in accordance with it, is an expectation with little foundation when dealing with firearms issues.

Hoffmans deal is $10 for 10 shots with any firearm. I also believe they refund part or all of your rental fees if you purchase from them.

Damn...Well, its still a cool deal...At the very least I will get to shoot a Ruger 22, a S&W M&P40C, a 1911 (dont know the brand) and a glock 9mm (not sure of the model) and another gun or two without renting, which I plan to do.
