What fun things are there to see/do this winter?

What is there to do that's on the unique side? In other words, aside from skiing, hiking, and making snowmen.

Ice skating on the Common?
Is there an ice castle somewhere?
Dog sledding?

Open to ideas to take my 3yo to. Don't mind driving a couple of hours from metrowest.

This is usually a nice evening out. They do up an hour's worth of trails with all kinds of Christmas lights. We'll be bringing our two young kids shortly, they love it!
