To me, this sort of prosecution seems a bit of a stretch. Why bother at all? If the guy is anything like normal, he'll punish himself far worse than the justice system ever will be able to. And, it too often has a double standard lurking under the surface.
If his son drown, would they charge him for negligence for leaving a filled pool accessible to his son? If his son fell off a ladder, would he get charged for allowing his son access to the ladder? No and no. But if it has gunpowder and goes "bang!", he gets charged. Sometimes, I think our society is a lot like the Romans, gleefully throwing them to the lions. I'd rather see another pedophile get locked up than this guy.
