So what do you do when it hits 40 degrees in Montana and there is no fresh snow for skiing? Well, you go fly-fishing! I was dying to try out my new 3wt tight-line fishing set up. I whipped up a few small but quick sinking flies and went to a spot I figured would be deep enough to hold some fish.

There is a bit of a learning curve to this type of fishing but man is it fun! To catch four fish in the middle of winter and miss three more hits is pretty amazing to me. Way more effective than indicator fishing. Well, I have been immediately converted! I felt the slightest tap with the new rod. Beautiful flex when you are fighting a fishing. Lot of rod for a 3wt. One of those lazy whitefish was around two pounds. Anyway, great couple hours of fun. Tomorrow we go ice fishing.
