What did you do in the reloading room recently?

so how do you all store your reloads? I bought a few of those $3-4 plastic cases that hold 50-100 depending on caliber. Gotta be a more cost-conscious way of storing them? Or do you just throw them into a plastic ammo box from HF?
Plastic and metal ammo cans for 9mm and 223 as I reload hundreds. I toss a piece of paper with load info in the can with a desiccant pack. For small batches of reloads, I use large mouth mason jars and toss a piece of paper with load data in there. I recently have been using canvas zipper bags to bring the reloads to the range as I don't want to load up an ammo can or glass jar.

I’ve tried a few things but I ended up buying a bunch of the MTM boxes. They’re really cheap and last forever. Just get the barrel hinge models and not the live hinge. The live hinges break after a while.

That and for bulk stuff I use Cambro square gallon lexan containers.

Random Thought.

A lot of us are buying the same stuff (primers/powder/boolitz) from the same sources and paying shipping and hazmat.

Shouldn't we be able to get together on a regular basis and buy in bulk, minimize the ship/hazmat, and share in the savings ? Perhaps it's an annual or semi-annual scheduled event...like the "annual Thanksgiving NES reloading component group buy" We should use the purchasing power of NES to everyone's advantage.

We're semi-intelligent people....we can pull that off, can't we ;-)

Sounds good to me. Are you offering to do the "group buy"?

Depends on the caliber. Most pistol stuff I put in gallon zip lock baggies. I use the zip locks for the brass I pick up after shooting. Rifle, I have a bunch of plastic ammo cans.

The reloads I keep for long term use I keep in a large storage lockable container in my dehumidified basement. I've thought about burying some of it with a respective firearm. When I do that I'll vacuum seal the ammo.

The only way this works is if one person says what is being ordered and those that want in join. If you start giving people choices you will end up with 50 people thet want 60 different things.

If you do a group buy of small pistol primers, I am IN for at least 10 cases. Maybe 15.

PM me if you do a group buy.

Zip lock bag. But I usually reload 2 or 3 days before shooting. Reloading 400 rounds is very fast for pistol.

For rifle, I have some plastic ammo boxes I bought from buffalo arms company.

50 cal ammo cans for 9mm as that’s what I shoot the most of. Everything else is in plastic peanut butter jars, zip loc bags, and other plastic containers I get at the dollar store.

They have been done before but on a smaller basis.
Like guys grabbing surplus powder or bullets when available.

I think it’s a great idea. I think it would have to be limited to certain items or it would get messy.
Unless you can get a price list and have everyone pay and commit ahead of time.

I’ve done some group buys and the difference from the feeler threads to the people that actually pony up cash is amazing.

I also think it’s a good idea but the biggest problem is limits on primers especially pistol. Most vendors are limiting 1k-5k per order so not very helpful for those needing primers. Powder I don’t think there are limits.
Not trying to be a negative Nancy [laugh]

I use any container I think can hold the weight. I purchased some stackable ammo boxes that I eventually store bulk ammo in. I use the small MTM cases for “match ammo” or anything I load in less than 50/100 rounds. I dont think I ever
paid for any of the small 50/100 round MTM cases. They always seem to find their way to me.

I bought 3 of these a while back. I like them. For the longer term storage the stackable tray really helps store them with out falling over

Ooooh nice. I’ve been meaning to order a set with the smaller “mini” cans. I think they would be perfect size for range trips.

range trips. I just dump everything into a cheap range bag NRA gave me many years ago. For a Chinajunka bag its held up nice. More better than my life time member "kit" I got a while back.
Laughable and sad. My dad has a nice knife and a few other cool nicnacs from the NRA of older days.

I thought about picking up a few of these

I almost grabbed these , My friend picked up a few for his camper and they fit his space better than the 50 cal cans

Speaking of zip loc bags. Does anyone else keep ammo in zip loc bags? I’ve noticed that a few days after squeezing all the air out and sealing the bags, somehow the bags inflate?? It’s almost as if something is off-gassing from the ammo??

I could honestly care less but just thought it was interesting.

Plastic is not a true gas barrier.

If I come across ziploc bags that are free and heavy duty I will use them to store bullets more than ammo.

I store mostly pistol and low quantity rifle in ziplock bags. Never noticed the bags inflating.

I came across these boxes & trays made by Top-Brass-inc I figured I would give it a shot as I’m not a big fan of the hard plastic ‘mtm” type case. The quality is very good and The cardboard is of a high quality like a lot of the factory boxes that some manufacturers use and the price was not too bad.. it amounts to about .55 cents a box with tray and can be re-used. I like them for easy handling, storing, keeps my reloads organized and in smaller batches for easy transport..

Reloaded these on Saturday to shoot tomorrow night.

There was a some air in the bag. But I also fold the bag.

Can you say, barometric pressure...

Also, when at your local range/club, do some discrete dumpster diving and recover the boxes from factory ammo that many toss.
Fortunately, not everyone destroys these upon opening.
I’ve done that before, and then I just cut the box at the seam and flip it inside out & hot glue the seam and it’s a clean looking box. Check out YouTube video below..
