What did you do in the reloading room recently?

Got the die today. The increase in resistance while seating the bullet is noticeable. But not a HUGE difference.
Guess I’ll have to see if there’s any difference shooting. Kinda doubt it lol
I was thinking you could use a kinetic puller (no powder or primer) to get a feel for how tightly the bullets are held in.

I got half inch groups at 100 yards with my scoped swiss k31 using IMR-4064 under a Nosler 168 gr custom comp BTHP. That powder and bullet shoots well in the Garand too.

I've also found that IMR4064 and 168gr bullets shoot really well in the K31...haven't gotten around to trying that combination in my Garand yet.

it is rather impressing how fast powder goes with those .308 loads - i got a ladder done just now for CFE223, from 44.5 to 47.5gr - it used up almost whole pound.
as of 4064 - i do not see it in any recommended loads for 168gr, i presume it is ok for 178?
I use 4064 for 175gr I believe, works very well.

I have a Lee Load-All that has been sitting on a shelf for at few years. That thing is amazing. I think I originally bought it for under $50. Then I have a Lyman 525 Grain Sabot slug mold and a couple years ago at the end of a casting session I decided to finally use it.

Result this past weekend was to load up 83 hulls of 12 Gauge with Sabot slugs. That is a lot of slugs.

Thank you. I have read Varget can be iffy esp in cold temps lightly loaded in large cases. (CMP Forums, IIRC) I use magnum primers with ball powder.
varget is not very sensitive to the temperature, it is not true.

Looks like it's settled then. Thanks Paul!

Wassup crew! Been cranking the 650 loading 9mm of my homemade 124gr coated bullets. When I told my gf I bought a case feeder this week, she looked at me and said “so what am I supposed to do now?”.
I said “load primer tubes”. lol

Same GF who a bunch of you met two smelting seminars ago.

Anyway, just wanted to say Hi and let you know I’m still cranking them out when I have the primers and the time.

Nice work!

What powder are you loading them with?

it is a perfect day to make ammo! going to do first 300 of pre-primed .223. then, will see. i have about of 300-400 left of non-primed 6.5CM brass. time to get it all done!

ps. just shoveled first foot of snow from my driveway. or may be it was closer to 8 inches in spots, difficult to tell. to be continued.

so, i was curious myself what is the actual speed for me to do those .223 - so, in 50 minutes since last post i've swapped setup with .223 plates, and made 100 rounds, measuring may be ever 6th or 8th drop to make sure it goes right. so far so good, drops are mostly stable with 25-25.1gr, some get to 24.9gr, rarely, but never goes higher than 25.1gr - with the shooters world precision rifle powder (varget), on the upgraded dillon powder measure. i think it is pretty awesome, for a batch reload consistency. PR powder has smaller sticks and seems to be metering much more consistently.

ps. next hundred was faster - 20minutes. surprisingly, amount of prepped primed brass reduced somewhat by 1/3rd only - means i made there last time about of 600 shells, good grief. odd i did not count it correctly.

350 .223, 150 6.5CM, 150 .308. Ready for the range day.

PS. and to conclude the day i`ve made 360 more .223 with the same 25gr load. hope it will group nicely.

Re-configured my 550 to load 30-06 and did 150 rounds. 48.0 4064 and a 125TNT bullet.

This is a brand new powder measure, so I was dealing with some initial static cling and first time use pains. I did polish the internals though.

Spot checking my powder drop, I was getting anywhere from 47.8 - 48.3. That maybe about as good as I can get considering how 4064 is cut. Although, there maybe some improvement as I run more powder through it.

My brother bought his first handgun last week. J frame 38. Made up 100 rounds for him to practice at the range with. Also ran 100 mire 45acp with my batch of once fired winchester brass 200 grain lswc and 4.6 bullseye. With the first batch of that I'm doing well at bullseye league.....1st place for Iron sight division after week 1. Also tumbled a huge batch of 45acp mixed brass and started another huge batch. Snowed in yesterday had to keep busy in the basement lol20220129_110450.jpg20220126_173043.jpg

I have one, and I love it. But I almost can't think of a worse first handgun, except maybe a .357 J frame. :)

Nice light 158g practice loads though.
He wanted some plus p so I made those with 125 grain projos so they would be a bit milder. He's fired tons of my handguns the last few years. He's been working on his ltc for like 4 years.

Love the paper puncher holes….

I have to agree with P.. A j frame .38 is not an easy gun to shoot well.

I definitely had to practice a lot with mine to get halfway decent. A zillion dry fires. And I really have to focus to hit anything more than a few yards out.

I started off shooting Glocks and various 22s. Several years ago I stumbled onto a nice old West German P228 and picked that up. The single action trigger is pretty nice, but I struggled with the DA first pull. I was like, I don't know how anyone hits anything on the first pull with these things.

Then I picked up a used DA only J frame. That had an Apex kit in it, and I kept getting light primer strikes, so I swapped those parts out for stock S&W springs, and that solved that. But I had the full 12 pound trigger pull. I worked on developing my skill with that for a while. Then at some point I took the P228 out again and.... surprise... the P228 DA pull suddenly felt easy.
