Please forgive me for not knowing much at all about AR's. I know I bought a entry level very basic AR. I'm not looking to add much to it. I like the looks of a quad rail system for the barrel. I'm not looking to have the gun sent to a gunsmith for modification to do anything. I do see it says no gunsmithing required but can I still put this on my MP sport?

Obviously I purchased this AR at an entry level because I dont have a ton of cash to throw at it. The fact I know nothing really about AR's is why I'm questioning what my 'basic' one will take.. I'm assuming there are some limitations to the sport model..but I dont know.

I've bought 4 guns in the last 6 weeks with 6 weeks ago being my first so I've spent enough lately..but want to know what I can start picking away at.

I'm mostly looking forward to a red dot site that wont interfear with the front fixed sights and rear collapseable magpul stock sight. Maybe a pistol grip (which would mount to the quad rail)

If anyone can recommend things that will work and are priced decent please let me know. I dont want the highest of high end, but not looking to buy trash either.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I was just looking at those today. Seems like a good bang for the buck on a factory built rifle. Can't really help with your questions, but I am sure that any carbine length quad rail system should work for you, in particular the ones that are called "drop in", because they are in two pieces so they are easy to install. I will look forward to what others here have to say about this model, and what it offers.

Ammo, lots of ammo.

Forget the red dot and the tactical grip. A good optic/red dot is $250+ and a fore grips are for mall ninjas

Like I said, ammo and lots of it. Learn how to shoot your gun without all the BS on it.

Yes, that fore end will fit your AR, but as I said IMHO skip the being and just buy ammo ( or magazines ) especially if you are on a budget

lol I hear what ya mean. I actually think I like the 'look' of the quad rail more than what I can add on it. Red dot would be down the road. But may take the fun away from actually aiming. I shot my friends Smith ORC AR15 and it was almost too easy with his red dot
I grabbed a can of federal 5.56 from Four Seasons so far for 169 for 420 rounds. I seen Wolf is much cheaper but not sure if its too dirty.. I would be fine with adding nothing to it but just would like to know my options if I did decide to do so.

I purchased 500 rounds of wolf.... I sold 300 rounds of it. Its dirty, its steel and its not tons cheaper that LC stuff.

If you learn how to use the iron sights on your gun you can always add an optic/red dot/Holocaust sight later for faster target acquisition ( if you feel the need)

420 rounds is not alot, they can go quick depending on how you shoot

I hear that on 420 not being alot.. the day that pushed me to get my license I'm sure I shot that much as well as numerous other rounds in handguns .. 30 round mags go quick! Sounds like I'll save my money for ammo for now and maybe add a scope later if I feel like it...but I do like the simplicity of iron sights.

While I can appreciate the fun of adding something to your rifle primarily because it looks cool (after all, I did throw Magpul MOE stuff on my AR...), you may be better served spending some time with your AR and becoming proficient with it as is before changing anything.

Oh, and if you haven't bought a two-point sling yet... get on dat. [grin]

Hey, I like my foregrip (that's what she said.....) - anyway it has storage and gives me a place to mount the tape switch for my light. I got one that mounted right on the factory hand guard so there was no need to upgrade to the quad rail, then buy a foregrip too.

You would be surprised what iron sights and an AR can do with someone that has taken the time to learn how to use the weapon system

Keep an eye out in the classifieds for preban mags, if you buy right you can get them under $20 a mag

Thanks for all the pointers guys. I'll keep it stock for now and see how I feel after a thousand rounds or so.

Does it have a pinned carbine stock? If it does I would get rid of it and buy one that you can get a good cheek weld on. Nothing more useless than a pinned "collapsible" stock.

Looking forward to hearing how you make out with this. Like everyone here I have a long list of guns I want to own. But I am looking into branching out from pistols and getting my first riffle and have been seriously looking at the M&P 15 Sport for my first AR. (I have a Marlin 22LR riffle, but get frustrated shooting it. Bolt action and not much fun IMHO.).

Please update the thread with how it works out. I shot an AR with optics at the GOAL shoot and got hooked!! It's only money, I just need more of both, guns and money!!!

the first thing i replaced on mine was the stock i went with a voltor modstock i like the wider & higher stock for a better cheek weld
it is a mil spec dia tube

Where in Western ma are ya. I went down to Riverview just over the border in Ct, they have a great selection of misc AR accessories. I picked up some handguards, optics and a bipod forward grip. I also found this.. http://www.gtdist.com/ProductDetail.aspx?PartNumber=SAF-RK-M4-2 at another store in WS. It was cheap and allowed me to use my foregrip\bipod. I liked the bipod grip .. cause I could extend the bipod at the range for a much steadier stance off the bench. http://www.grippod.com/gpsle.html it's easy to install and easy to remove if I don't need it on. I have like 7-8 AR's so I tend to install where needed.

+1 but i do like my Bolt Action .22 Savage rifle... If i only had an unlimited amount of MONEY I would be all set...[smile]

I just picked one of these up as well... My only beef is the pinned collapsable stock, I cant put into words how much I dislike the m4 style stock, and to have it pinned makes it that much worse... I realy wish manufactures would ship ARs to mass with standard A2 rifle stocks instead.

I just got one of these a few weeks back at FS.

Out of the box, I put a magpul MIAD grip and a UTG pro quad rail with Magpul foregrip and rail covers. Mine already came with a Magpul MBUS flip up rear sight....I guess these was a recent change to the m&p15 sport.

Now to just grab a few more prebans and go shoot it.

Will be ordering some parts soon .. I'll post pics once I have them in and installed.

I ordered the carbine version of that foreguard because it has a top rail. You don't need a gunsmith, but it is much easier if you have a foreguard removal tool. Mine went on in under 20 min, and I was taking my time.
