The Devil Next Door

A Ukrainian immigrant to the US is accused of being an Nazi SS extermination camp guard who ran the gas chambers at Treblinka and is extradited to Israel to face trial. Damn, if you think having to fight charges with the full weight of a government after you, try having the full weight of several governments after you!

can someone explain who the weird old guy is with the catapult, and how he connects to the story?
He is Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias. One of the original Watchmen that have been portrayed on screen for the show. The other is Laurie Blake/Silk Spectre (FBI agent)

Watchmen on HBO seems better than average so far.

Edit: 4 episodes in - well above average.
Yes. Yes it is. I think they are nailing it.

Waiting on The Witcher. Started the Mandalorian on Disney + last night. This show is everything the movies should be - reliant on acting and not on special effects...... And the end of the first episode
f***ing blows everything out of the water

Just finished Season 2 of Jack Ryan. I think Season 1 was better but I enjoyed Season 2 as well.
Some sites said it was filmed in Venezuela but I think that's not true, it was filmed in Bogota, Colombia - which is probably even scarier, lol.

John Krasinski saying we should cherish the CIA. I don't think he's saying that just cause they helped the show, and he doesn't want to get whacked.

Then again he has a good poker face.

3rd episode blows everything out of the water. :)

I agree, what a great story and character. I think it's the first moral dilemma in Star Wars.

How do you do the spoiler option anyway?

Did you watch the original movie or read the graphic novel? It's Veidt as mentioned above. Although this is an alternate Watchmen universe. (I don't want to say too much as I don't want to spoil anything for people.)

I'm not sure he's trying to do anything but escape. I think. There is a lot that hasn't been revealed on the show. (I haven't watched Sunday's episode yet.)

It's going a bit crazier than I would have wanted. They've stepped it up one more notch than seems reasonable I think. I think. Not sure. It's starting to remind me of that Netflix show with the superhero kids all grown up. Gosh I was pissed on that one when I found out it was a series and there would be no conclusion after all that convoluted mess. If this ends up like that, I'm gonna stop watching after this season. I don't need multi-season problems that I have to wait, literally, years to solve.

I won't watch the next season of WestWorld for the same reason. They should have done 2 reasonably good seasons and moved on. Now we're about 400 paces past reasonable and it's just BS-crazy.

Really??? I found the second season better for some reason. It's pretty good, tho. And JK is a great actor for the part.

Reminds me of Fringe, concentrated and sped up. When did Don Johnson get so old.

no, I didn't. I decided last night I was done with the series. I'm not a big sci-fi guy and the show was too out there for me
I'm having a hard time watching this week's episode. Seems the flashback could be about 10 minutes of an episode, not the whole thing. I think I've got 20 min left. Hard to watch. It better improve next episode or I'm out.

Just watched it. If you enjoy mob movies like Goodfellas and Casino then you'd probably like The Irishman. It's 3.5 hours and slow paced so you have to be in the mood for it.
DeNiro.
Scorcese.
Mob movie.
3.5 hours and slow paced.

That's four strikes against it in my book. I was telling my movie enthusiast son earlier that I wouldn't watch it for the first three reasons; I had no idea that it's 3.5 hours long.

Watched the Irishman yesterday in one sitting. I enjoyed it. If you like mob movies, there is nothing not to like about this movie. There are also no surprises here. If you've watched a Scorsese movie before, you know what you are getting. There are a ton of cameo's. Lot's of familiar faces in this. So many it was a little distracting at times trying to figure out who these actors are and what movie(s) they were in. I will probably watch this again at some point.

The Irishman is to Goodfellas as The Force Awakens is to Star Wars. The story is a 3.5 hour retelling of Goodfellas but seems ridiculous and almost comical in comparison. Just like TFA, there are scenes you knew you have seen before but they are uncanny valley different and the dialogue was almost word for word identical to when he was Henry Hill's father beating up the postman who delivered the bad report card. When DeNero's half assed Jimmy Conway was beating up the bakery owner who scolded his daughter? He hardly lifted his leg off the ground when he kicked the guy. DeNero phoned it in through the whole film. Joe Pesci looks surprised to even have another movie to do.

Is Hollywood incapable of a new idea or do they have zero options for new talent? Why are they digging up aged actors to reprise old roles?

I dont think its lack of ideas and new scripts, its more that btdt has a track record of making money for the studios, so the money people go with the low hanging fruit for the easy buck. Some really well done movies go unnoticed by the masses, so no potential to make money. Too risky, ironically, to be original.

Pretty much this.

Nobody wants to be the guy that green-lights the next big budget flop for a studio. The whole industry in Hollywood is built on self-preservation. So they stick with as you said, low hanging, bankable fruit.

I'm watching it now. This movie is amazing. I'm not getting how anyone who likes these types of movies would dislike it. I'd watch 100 movies with this cast and Scorsese in charge.

In general - yes. But every once in a while a gem sneaks through, and by gem I mean Joker.
