listening to the rain now. I know a couple people running it including a first timer, feel bad for them to have to not only prepare (you have to sit behind Hopkinton high school until you walk to the start) but to run in it as well. Are we ever going to see Spring or is winter holding out until June?
Any runners or family of runners here ?

The biggest who gives a damn event ever. And now millions of dollars of taxpayer money is now being used to provide security for it and you can't get a single politician to say how much. The marathon organizers no longer can raise enough to cover the costs of the events and your politicians are hiding how much we are paying to have people run up and down hills all day.

I was under the impression that sponsors and the BAA covered everything.

I know one runner. Pretty sure he will identify as a guy, LOL. Yeah, this weather BLOWS! Even if you are not into marathons, this is a premier event that is THE highlight for many runners. Imagine this weather at Camp Perry- that would suck.

Might still go to the range to function check a M1 for a match next Sunday & get even with the ~2" of frozen crap on the ground and blow some of it off of the berm.

I bet the 30,000 runners and 500,000 spectators would say otherwise.

What does it cost to host the Boston Marathon?

The Boston Athletic Association gives cities and towns along the Boston Marathon route a chunk of cash for hosting. Here’s what seven of the eight communities get. Most towns said they spend all the reimbursement money on Marathon-related expenses, and often more.

    Hopkinton - $121,500

    Ashland - $63,300

    Framingham - $63,300

    Natick - $61,500

    Wellesley - $63,300

    Newton - $121,500

    Brookline - $71,100

Boston did not return the Daily News request for information.[rolleyes]

Unfortunately this day has hypothermia written all over it if not prepared properly. Hope they have a good supply of those emergency blankets for the runners. I've been to the starting line a few times when I lived in Hopkinton and the energy there is unbelievable. Think today will be a little muted though. Pretty cold and raw out there.

It's terrible traffic day to me... but after today, I'll won't have to dodge people running down the middle of the road 4-6 people wide on the weekends when I'm trying to get errands done.

Those world class runners have no meat on their bones. Near zero fat content.

The African runners are not used to this at all.

Should be an interesting race. I imagine emergency medical folks will be kept very busy today.

At least they have an East wind to help move them along. About the only positive for the weather today.

When they say an East wind they mean the wind is coming out of the east. Meaning the wind will be in their faces the whole way with 40 mph gusts. Not a good thing for them.

No longer just the clock being competed with.....now it's the elements. I'll bet 1/4 the way through the course there will be a lot of second thoughts as to why they even entered.

Who pissed in your cheerios this morning?

And even if the BAA doesn't directly cover all costs I'd be shocked if the marathon were in any way an economic loss for the area, with 10s of thousands of people coming in from out of town, getting hotel rooms, going to restaurants, etc.

I hate Cheerios and I hate people dipping into my wallet. How big is the check that will be mailed to my house for my share of the profit the Marathon brings in?
Security costs have gone up over 5 fold since the bombing. The costs of all of it won't be released because its in the millions. I don't want ANY PRIVATE ORGANIZATION hosting ANY DAMN EVENT unless they can PAY FOR IT THEMSELVES. I don't care who it is. It brings money into the community is nothing more than a cover word for don't ask about how much this is costing all of us.

it would be nice to see win the marathon besides Obama's countrymen, someone from Siberia or some Irish dude.

well, if this was completely flat road, good weather, it would not be Boston marathon, it would be San Fran or Florida marathon, not hard core. At least you don't have to run in cotton pants, wool socks and leather boots but in some space age anal sweat wicking NASA fabric.

I don't care much about the marathon, but this has been one of the worst springs in memory. I'm just glad I managed to get to FL for a week last month. Weather was gorgeous down there. One of my worst life decisions was moving back to this cold, socialist, shithole state. Only good news is looks like we will start looking at houses in NH soon.

The Indy Car Race scam was another one. How Walsh has managed to escape jail time is surprising to me.

His point is...that the taxpayers shouldn't be on the hook for a single yankee dime of that cost, and I happen to agree with him. These retards wanna run 26 miles in a big group, that's just dandy...shutting down traffic and taking money away from public funding so they can take a dump in their panties at mile 13 and not have to stop to clean it up is beyond what I'm willing to deal with as a taxpayer.

This whole things is stupid and they should shut it down for good. The terrorists won...nothing to see here...Boston Thong (even the lady boys agree)

Having grown up on the route, the event went from "ooo cool" to PIA very quickly. It now becomes a "season" thing where people will come into town early and do group training runs on the route. Its a road, and running in a bunched up group with your buddy somewhere along the way with a makeshift water station parked half in the road with his flashers on is downright selfish. Guarantee noone is getting reimbursed for that type of "individual" a%%hattery that starts happening around the time of the event.
