That's the title of the NBC news front page web site in regards to the recent black church shooting. Its a little sad. If someone was stronger than evil, then they prepare for evil and fight evil. They don't plead with the shooter to stop while he is reloading, as one of the survivors did. "Stronger than evil", "Boston strong", phrases to make people feel better after a tragedy. "Liking" a page to feel like they are supporting a cause while sitting at their computer...

Is this the new norm?? Come out after the tragedy and make up feel good phrases? Why has the media not once mentioned that if one person had a gun for self defense in that church this tragedy could have ended with fewer fatalities. Instead its , guns are bad.... We need to do something about guns..... No one addresses the mental health issues that affected both adam lonza and this clown.

Anyway, my little rant... I'm looking more and more like a freak to the outside world in MA as a result in wanting to protect myself and my family from tragedies like this...

I mean yes you are a freak lol. It's two separate incidents. First off a bomb going off unexpectedly caused hundreds of people to turn from bystanders to first responders instantly. The shooter while still unexpected was a singular threat engaging them and was visible unlike a bomb. Not belittling the victims of either or saying what one did was more heroic than the other. Just your mind is trained to think that the next bomb won't get you. Where the shooter is there doing something you don't understand.

Your family is your family you do what you think is necessary because at the end of the day if you can't block out the idea your family is in danger your not going to do much of anything.

The cause slogans and names do a lot of good to raise awareness to these tragedies. And they do raise awareness and money for the victims families so take the good with the bad. Yes those dbags on face book who like that and say I'm with you are obnoxious. But even in that selection of people one or two actually reach out and make a huge difference in a victims life you read that once in a while too. Do I like it no but I just don't go on any social media and I don't know about it. So counter rant over?

IMO 'evil' is trying to use this tragedy to push a political agenda forward (or using it as cover to jam through BS that was destroyed in a vote just last week, but I digress). Maybe NBC (Nuttin' But Communism) should look in the mirror a bit?

$hit happens...that's why I own guns and carry some.

Hey, God helps those who help themselves. So I choose to help myself to some personal protection. Call me a freak and call me crazy. So be it....

Until it hits the fan, I think nbcnews thinks they have it all figured out....

Yes - it does help, IMO. Here's why:

A lot of people confuse America with the government. They are two separate entities, and nowadays I'm not convinced they aren't att odds with each other. The government is easy to envision - bunch of rich power hungry *******s in D.C. leeching off America for more money and power.

America itself, though, is everything else. It's not the dirt, or the roads, or the infrastructure - it's the people and how we relate to each other, work with each other, and unite or divide amongst each other. It's not tangible - it's conceptual at best. And since it's conceptual, and not tangible, you can't physically strengthen it. You can build border walls (ref. government vs. America notion above for reason why we DON'T) to keep people out, you can fortify defensive positions, but to strengthen or weaken America itself means influencing human behavior itself. Influencing perceptions, belief, and opinion. "Faith, hope, and charity, these three things" , in one form or another, are the POSITIVE attributes that we (want to) attribute to America. These can't be bought or traded with EBT cards and tax breaks - these are ideas and beliefs among many that holds America together.

The propaganda (not saying it's a bad thing - just calling it what it is) is in my view intended to strengthen AMERICA - not to make our streets safer or to weaken America by ceding more power to the government - but to convince the populace that those ideas and beliefs that bind (or divide) everyone is what it will take to endure evil. Not more laws, not less liberties, but awareness of the POSITIVE common bond that makes us what we are. Also consider all the things you've had to tell yourself over and over again until you believed it (lost loved ones are in a better place, you can finish a long run without stopping, you can fix a broken piece of equipment, or pass a test) - you press those perceptions until perception becomes self-fulfilling reality.

Or maybe I'm just losing my mind. I've only slept for a few hours in the last couple days and my brain is running purely on caffeine and Skoal right now.

TL;DR - if everyone stops being an *******, things will be cool.

I have no problem with you carrying fwiw. Just the situations are different. A bomb attack like I said it's sudden violent then chaos a shooting is a bit more sustained and the guy is there and not faceless is the way I'd put it. Also you wanna knock stupid come together slogans don't forget the one that started America 'no taxation without representation' bunch of people rallied behind that for good results. It just helps bring people together under the banner of supporting a cause to help the victims
