CAX in 97 I think.

Why do I have to hump the damn radio!

Reviving an old thread. My buddy Laz sent me this tonight. I thought it was pretty cool as it was his last mission.

Here's the text he sent with the photo:
One of our C/75, IFFV Commo Plt men just sent me this photo of my last mission as Tango Lima of Charlie Rangers' TM-24 (top left standing).

Had to be late September of 1971 out of Ranger Hill, in An Khe, RVN, while stuck in the TOC (Tactical Operations Center) as our unit's last Intel Ops Sgt (Order of Battle Sgt).

Well, I've given up on PhotoBucket so here are some pictures that I took in San Diego and Coronado Island 3 weeks ago.

1. USS Midway CV-41 Museum - decommissioned in 2004; diesel powered
2. USS Nimitz CVN-68 with white tower being painted on the right with USS George Washington CVN-73 next door on the left. Destroyer heading out to sea.
3. USS Ronald Reagan at port with crew lining decks, adjacent to USS GW and Nimitz!
4. USS Ronald Reagan CVN-76 heading to Coronado Island after 4 month deployment (picture out of order and should precede #3).
5. Nuclear attack sub being worked on in port.

I love being an American Super Power! [smile]

Bob

I spent 4 years working the deck on the USS Midway back in the mid to late 80s as a Plane Captain and Aviation Electrician for F4s and F/A-18s. That deck has seen some use. I can't wait to take some vaca time and head over there to see her again. I'll have to hide a small lock cutter in the wife's pocketbook as I'm sure I'm not going to get access to a lot of places I know on board. [wink]

I'll have to dig up and scan a bunch of pics I have of her during flight opts. Damn I loved working the deck during night operations!!!!

one of them moments in Iraq... not even sure what I was thinking of when this was taken... but it was probably a Newport [laugh] - smoked Winston Reds when I ran out!

one of the many non-conventional vehicles the special ops guys had. this one was utilized by our mortars (80mm) in HHC, they got stuck running escorts and mail...

Camp Monteith - although I hardly spent any time there... we had sea huts. it was KFOR 3B (2001/2002). most of the time we were out at "hard sites" (FOBs) in the close by villiages..

it was a good deployment.. lots of humping in the hills, air insertions, check points, patrols, bus escorts, MEDCAPS, search-n-rescue (after an earth quake).. good coffee, bootleg movies and CD's... [smile]

when i was there camp monteith was still there, but about 2 months into the deployment every single building placed there by the americans was removed, including every single SEAHUT. the only buildngs that are left are the original serbain ones and a few misc brick ones. then they turned the base over to the local TMK.

only bondsteel is used as a base in task force east now.

ohhh your a 181 guy. i know a few of the people that were on your deployment.
i am, and soon to no longer be (thankfully) a 101 guy.

i cant believe how bad the 181's equipment and vehicles were when the 101 replaced it. it was like moving into some 3rd world countries armory. the state gave you guys the shaft.
