"We can't explain it," Menino says of holiday violence

Thanks for the info. Glad I no longer attend. Better seat in front of HD TV anyway and I don't have to deal with the jerks and drunks.

Last I was there it was all DCR Rangers and MSP on the ground (Esplanade). No idea who else (besides USCG) might have been in the water. [NG only handled the cannons.]

Now it's more crowded than the beaches off Normandy. MSP, Environmental Police, USCG, maybe BPD, and who knows who else?

The crowd is so tight that unless you use black helicopters [rofl] it's damn near impossible for any LEO to move efficiently thru the mass of humanity to get anywhere.

It's difficult for anyone to move or to find anyone for that matter. If I wasn't getting paid to be there, you wouldn't find me anywhere near the place.

Here are 3 possible reasons:

1. It's summer - longer days

2. It's summer - it's HOT!

3. More welfare spawn and illegal aliens squabbling over turf. The irresponsible and criminal tend to produce more of same.

Guess their parents haven't been visited by the PD for those "voluntary" gun checks yet!

True...and...apparently the criminals spent their Federal rebate check [smile]

What's up with the gun shot detection system--or whatever it's called. Don't tell me the $1.5 million invested isn't helping [rolleyes]
The answer you get depends upon the person speaking. I saw an article in Boston.com today reporting the BPD command staff's concerns about a web site named badgewars.com. Apparently, most of the posters are BPO venting. Out of curiosity, I went and in it I found quite a few disparaging remarks about the shotspotter system.
I don't believe the shot spotter is effective. It it were, it would be noted and praised in the BPD official news site and it seldom is mentioned. I think Menino and his crew would like us all to forget that $1.5 million was spent on this system.[wink]
Best Regards.

considering we have 2,500,000 people in prison in america, i think theres a issue with space for all these people to go. we have the highest prison population in the world, and the highest percent for the population.

we'd have plenty of space if we stopped locking up non-violent drug offenders.[thinking]

It was the criminalization of petty drugs, primarily marijuana, that created the prison overcrowding we suffer from now.

I'd rather see the "anti-drug" resources reallocated to truly useful functions: border security and harbor protection.

don't forget your candle light memorials...

These go up my ass sideways. These candlelight vigils do nothing, which is why they are the demonstration of choice for public officials. Much better than voting bums out of office, impeaching judges, or otherwise mobilizing and actually accomplishing something.

It's kind of like a meeting. A meeting is where you talk about what you would be doing if you weren't sitting in a meeting.

my point exactly. What a waste of taxpayer money arresting and prosecuting people who are in possession of a PLANT when we could be using those funds for oh I don't know... things that actually matter (like homies bustin' caps in each others asses)...

We can thank Nixon and Reagan for the drug war.

(Overall, I like both presidents so don't flame me. I just disagree with their absurd drug policies)

I don't care about "homies bustin' caps in each others asses" any more than I cared about which gangster got hit in the gangland wars of the '60's. I DO care about the "collateral damage," which the Mafia hits had virtually none of and the current scum seem to revel in.

The guy growing pot in his basement is hardly a Menace To Society. MS-13, the Latin Kings, etc. ARE. Deal with them.

I should have been more clear. I could also not give a rat's ass about the homies. Actually when I turn on the news and hear about a shooting in Boston, my usual reaction is "Good, one less". It's the innocents in the cross-fire that get the short end of the stick with all these useless laws.

Sometimes I wish we could just hand them guns so they could wipe each other out. Unfortunately gangsters tend to be like worms. You cut one up and you end up with two.

What I find queer, mighty queer about Mayor Menino's statement is that he focuses only on the gunshot victims this 4th of July weekend. A man was also beaten to death in broad daylight near Fanueil Hall. http://www.thebostonchannel.com/news/16796980/detail.html I guess we only worry about violence in the city of Boston when it is gun violence.

Of course. Demonizing gun owners panders to the urban gentry and welfare recipients who elect him.

It's very difficult to go on a self-righteous tirade against people who wear shoes, and any reference to race or class is politically incorrect.

got one more reason: a long cold winter that left a lot of scores unsettled!

The word exterminate comes to mind and I agree 100%, let them wipe each other out and leave the innocents be!

Menino, you can't explain it because your a HALF WIT political hack that has no idea of what the real world is like. A low life liberal cum quart that doesn't have a clue. Just not our fault that you got the crap beaten out of you most of you life. Your a looser and that's pretty much what you have to look forward to.

You discust me!
You Repulse Me!
And I just cant understand what comes out of your fat faced marble ridden mouth!

DON'T HOLD BACK GENE! You're being way too kind. You gave him TOO MUCH WIT

That's another reason why Menino likes candlelight vigils. They're silent.

A .22 in the back of the head from close range is highly unlikely to harm anyone other than the intended victim.

And you came to this conclusion by watching which movie? Casino maybe?

I like gangster movies as much as the next guy but they're entertainment and in no way a reflection of reality. Codes about not injuring civilians or what not are complete BS. The mafia makes a living off of extorting average Joes. If someone threatened you or your family I think your perceived precision and choice of caliber would seem less attractive.

I said nothing about a "code" and a threat or extortion is clearly aimed a target and, therefore, by definition not collateral damage.

Name an incident in which by-standers have been injured by a Mafia hit.

While hardly an exemplary organization, the Mafia does not engage in the "kill them all, let God sort them out" type of terrorism manifested by newer urban parasites.

I have close relatives on the BPD. It's become cliche, but the main problem is witnesses refusing to cooperate. These scum prefer frontier-type justice, live in constant states of denial and entitlement, and glorify the gangsta lifestyle.

Yeah, it's hot which means more people outside. But more important is this notion that the scum deserve respect and that disrespecting someone is a capital offense. You want disrespect? Drive on 128 this afternoon. Respect musty be given in order to be earned. But of course, wink wink, if someone disrespects you that's all you need to justify breaking off a few in their direction. Morons.

Prove to me that none of the murders over the weekend weren't mafia related. [smile]

And just because killers weren't wearing suits and hats while riding on the sideboards with a tommy gun, it doesn't prove they weren't part of, or acting on behalf of the 'mafia'.

Call it whatever you want but if you go to a funeral does it make any difference if the person in the coffin is an innocent victim, bystander, or collateral damage?

Get a grip. When the corpse is wearing "colors" and is known to be part of a gang such as the Crips, Bloods, LK's, MS-13, etc., the chances of it being a Mafia hit are somewhat less than the cause of death being struck by a meteorite. [rolleyes]

And if you can't grasp the distinction between a banger getting offed in a turf war or a drugs/guns/stolen property deal gone bad, as opposed to a little kid shot while sitting on the front steps of the family home, you are incapable of rational discussion of this issue. [slap]
