Great memories from the 80's-90's driving into the city listening to 880, that was the best and quickest link for news and info.
It's a different world now.

The same company owns WINS. It really didn't make sense to have two clear channel all-news stations in the same market.

Leased the signal to Good Karma, who is the son of Mel Karmazin of Infinity Radio, CBS Radio, and Viacom fame

Audacy is in Bankruptcy, the stations are "debtor in possession" ownership, David Fields and his family ran it into the ground

So why shutter WCBS?

Because Audacy also owns WINS 1010 ( the WBZ of NYC radio) and they were duplicating the most expensive format to do, news radio.

It takes a LOT of people to do news radio, and WCBS was a union shop so it was very expensive.

So they lease it to Good Karma, and make more money by leasing it than they were running it, plus they just convince what advertisers were not already buying time on WCBS to buy spots on WINS.

Basically they did what Beasley just did with 92.9 WBOS here in the Boston market, except in WBOS's case they are going to use that useless AM signal known as WRCA to feed their 106.1 translator, which actually has a decent signal, and they are also going to feed it to WBOS HD-2 for those of you that have a car with a decent radio.

They will still air the Detroit morning show, and they cut Adam Chapman (the Ted McGinley of radio) since they no longer need a Program Director, they will have some other Beasley drone (one of the three people still employed by Beasley nationwide as they have cut and cut and cut positions) voice track the rest of the shifts.

Beasley also sh*tcanned Ayla Brown and her co-host who was on his second time around with Measley ooops I meant to type Beasley in AM drive, the same thing they did in 2 other markets and they are going to pipe in a show from PA instead.

If I sound like I am not a fan of Beasley, I am not.

They screwed a LOT of people I know over big time

Listen to WMNR Fine Arts Radio on various FM frequencies in Connecticut and New York. All our classical music programs stream on the radio station's website. Programs also feature the best jazz, folk, opera, and Broadway music. WMNR is a source for the best classical music on FM or online.

The drive to New Hampshire has a particular sequence of stations:

• WMNR 88.1 to Waterbury, then:
• WDRC-FM 102.9 The Whale, to the Lesbian Capital, then:
• WEIB-FM 106.3 Smooth Jazz, to the Vermont line, then:
• WNCH-FM 88.1 VPR Classical, to the Bradford rest, then:
• WMTK-FM 106.3 The Notch.

Only three presets needed: 88.1, 102.9, and 106.3

My memory of New York radio is 66 WNBC before they became WFAN, and when Imus and Howard Stern were still there.

(Did anyone - besides my older brother - actually watch that show? That one and The Courtship of Eddie's Father. Oh, and that Marlo Thomas one - That Girl. I loved that squeaky scratchy voice at 8yo. LOL)
