I walked into Walmart Framingham today to find an empty ammo case. I drove up a block to Dicks Sporting Goods and was told by a clerk that Walmart in Framingham got busted for not ID'ing somebody.

ouch...............that sucks...............i hope the walmart up in seabrook, nh doesnt get caught doing this

Every time I buy ammo at that Walmart they want to see my LTC and driver's license. One day the lady was giving me a hard time and taking forever to look over my credentials so I threw down my NH license too like the badass that I am and said...what else do you wanna see? Oh and they don't like to double bag there...bulk ammo weighs a lot.

But I definitely do appreciate them taking the time to check and make sure I am legit.

i always pull out my id even before they ask, kinda like when i buy beer....in my experience, if they see it in your hands, they wont even bother looking at it........

that's the same Walmart where I was asked for my LTC while trying to buy airgun pellets.

The last time I shopped there I couldn't find anyone speaking English, I kid you not!

The cases at the one on Ballard street in Worcester are now empty of any ammunition as well.

I inquired about this as I live right up the street and this was very convenient for me. Per one of the managers the door to the case broke and they can no longer keep the ammo in there until the door is fixed (it has been that way for several months now). They did retrieve a couple boxes of .40 from under the counter when I asked though.

Well, so it pass the test. Framingham wally world do check id.

The secret is I cleaned out the cabinet. All the ammo marked with 0.01 clearance price. I spend $10 and tipped $10 for a guy to roll the ammos out to my truck. [rolleyes][rolleyes][rolleyes][rolleyes]

I was in there last Thursday night and the door had been repaired. Did it break again?

I don't mean this as something personal to anyone. But I've never understood why some of you guys get your panties in a wad over things like this. There are plenty of small business owners who would love your business (even if you have to pay 50 cents more a box). Walmart and Dicks have never done anything for you except to expedite the demise of local gun stores.[sad2]

I just mention it for those that might go there looking and be disappointed. I reload almost everything I shoot and buy bulk from friendly gun stores for the other stuff.
As for the demise of local stores, some do that all on their own. One on 140 in Upton springs immediately to mind. Too bad.

At least in my area, there really are not any local dealers with a decent ammo selection and stock to go to. When I stock up, I may make a trip to a small business but if I'm on my way to the range and need to top off, Dick's and Walmart are the only choices.

I agree. The problem is it is not 50 cents more in many cases. I have seen ammo marked up $10 or more from what I've seen at big box stores. I'm not talking about the ammo scare either. This was back in maybe December. Driving 45-60 minutes just to get a box of ammo from another gun shop doesn't always make sense for people. In some cases there just are not many choices for some of us.

Shop local only goes so far when there are such wide price disparities.

Bigger stores have way better prices and Dick's and Walmart are open on Sundays and Mondays.

I got the same story at the Walmart in Worcester a few weeks ago. I had to tell them what I wanted and they went out back to get it. Took so much longer.

No ammo at Wal-Mart in Chicopee either. Don't know why and I can never find anyone to talk to back there to inquire as to why. I can only assume the same happened in Chicopee as Framingham but I cannot say for sure. Oh well, Dick's is just as convenient. The local shops around me all have a limited selection of ammo as it is and in small amounts. Haven't tried the other Wal-Marts in the area but if I'm going that far it's not worth it to me to buy anything unless I'm in the area for something else.

The Walmart in framingham has not had ammo for almost a month now.

Also the last time I went their no one seemed to have a key. We waited 30 minutes for someone to finally find a key and the person helping is or should I say (not helping us) didn't have a clue what she was doing. Starting with not knowing how to open or close the case, know what a LTC was compared to an FID. She then couldn't get the cash register in sporting goods to work so we had to follow her over to the photo area. The person working at that counter started asking me questions - "is this for a rifle or hand gun" I said its for both. She replied "is it for a rifle? or a hand gun?" I said its for a rifle.... to try and end the questions. She then says " oh no this is for a hand gun" I was buying 9mm. She then takes my LTC and my friends LTC as we bother were buying ammo but in the way you would check an ID when buying liquore. Then they comment how we both are from the same state? no idea why that is an odd thing. The icing on the cake is when she goes " I will escort you out, I dont want you shooting up the place" then she literally walked us out the front doors.
I planned on grabbing something else in the store but decided to not waste anymore time or effort.

After being insulted and escorted out like a delinquent I dont think I will ever go back to the Framingham Walkmart especially if the ammo is gone.

On a positive note, Dicks in Framingham had Wolf ammo for sale. fmj 9mm at 8.90 a box. I bought 18 boxes and was in and out under 10 minutes. Thanks Dicks! :)

I've tried going to some of the local stores. The price disparity is much higher than 50 cents per box out here. All three stores charged $5-10 more for the exact same 50 rounds of 9mm. One place was actually $20 more per 50.

If I'm heading out towards Boston, I'll generally stop at Four Seasons to stock up since it's a comparable price and relatively on the way.

Yep, walmart sells a box of 100 for less than many gun stores sell a box of 50, so its not just 50 cents.

Wow, I usually keep my mouth shut but an experience like that I would have said something to the manager about their policies, that is completely insulting and id have been pissed.

Exactly right. 50¢ extra per box at a dealer is no big problem for me. Several dollars (or more) extra per box and... I'm sorry... I'm walking away and going to Walmart or Dicks (assuming I can't wait for the next show).

My problem with FS is that they tell me one price on the phone and it's always a buck a box more expensive when I get there. What's that all about? [thinking]

It never was sold in Chicopee. They put in the cabinets, stocked them with ammo and never sold any. I asked and the person I spoke to said that it was a license problem.

There are Wally Worlds in MA that carry ammo? That's news to me. The two closest ones to me (Tewksbury and North Reading) only carry bb guns.

You mean, 50 cents to 3 dollars (or more) per box. [laugh]

Ammo is almost commodity status.... so you're going to tell me, with a straight face, that you would use "Bob's gas" instead of BJ's or (insert other low price gas seller) even when Bob's is still 50 cents more per gallon? Because that's basically what this is.

There's no value add for dealers on ammo, either. unless the customer is slow or something and needs help choosing the ammo.

The dealers I know don't really care about Wal Mart, btw. They know people will still buy ammo from them out of convenience or whatever. Many dealers give price breaks, but only on case lots, and even after the breaks theyre still not competitive.

Back before the prices went full retard I felt like you did... I bought all my ammo from the dealers... now all I buy from dealers is defense ammo and the few calibers I don't reload. Before I started to reload I was hitting up walmarts for awhile. Then again, even at the time, there were advantages from using a dealer. For example, when I used to buy WWB 9mm I used to get it from a dealer for $120 a case, and the walmart price at the time was like $110 for the same ammo, except most Wal Marts never had 1000 rounds on the floor at any one given time.

I try to avoid buying ammo at Wal mart, but frankly I am glad they are still selling it, because it acts as an indicator/moderating force for market price for some kinds of ammo. Ironically enough walmart is making it so the mid levels can't get away with screwing the dealers past a certain point. Walmart served as a "real price indicator" for ammo because when it came in they didn't really gouge for it, they just sold it at whatever their existing pricing formula was... and because Walmart probably deals factory direct, the mid levels couldn't play games with their ammo costs.
