Well as I've read the local Wal Marts near me have stopped selling rifles and shotguns. I was in Dartmouth, MA. today and wante dto see if they were reducing the gun prices low enough for me to justify buying something I don't need, and there were none to be found. The guy at the counter told me they would still sell ammo, but they shipped their firearms off to Raynham.
Suposeadly Fairhaven and Wareham have stopped selling too. I read in the local paper a statemnt from the web site:

"In order for each of our stores to be a store of the comunity and offer merchandise that is relevant to that specific comunity and customer base, we recently made a business decision to no longer offer firearms in approximately 1,000 of our locations."

[rolleyes] With all the violence around the south east Mass area, area Wal Marts should have been selling pistols with laser grips, and tactical shotguns for self and home defense if they wanted to be a "store of the comunity".

I'm surprised they sold firearms for as long as they have. The long guns they sell never move. The sports dept guy at the Northboro wallmart said he has sold less than 10 in the 7 years he has worked there.

It's just makes sense that they stopped.

The Walmart I frequent in ME is still going to carry firearms and ammo. [smile] The clerk told me she heard many of the NH stores weren't moving enough and will be discontinuing the sale of firearms and ammo.

I know many can't stand Walmart but I can still get Blazer Brass 9mm for 5.97 a box!! That a damn good price. I buy all they have when I'm there.

It is the best place to get the value pack boxes of Federal 22 ammo. At $10 a box, if they ever stop selling ammo, I may have to stock up like crazy just to feed my lil' tactical 10/22.

Last time i was in Walmart in Plaistow, NH they said they were getting rid of the remainder of the rifles but would still carry ammo and other goods. About 3 weeks ago or so.

I don't see why the Wally World near me wasn't selling a shole lot more, unless it something to do with
  • the complete lack of any sales people in the area, much less any who know anything about guns or ammunition;
  • the fact that the ammo was kept completely hidden behind the counter, so that you had to locate a sales person and ask in order to find out whether they had any ammo at all in a particular caliber, much less what brand or type;
  • the fact that I have more rifles of shotguns in just one of my safes than they had on display in the store.

If you're not interested in selling somthing it's not at all hard to pass it off as a lack interest by customers.

I went to the Hudson NH store today to get some ammo. I have been there enough that the guy doesn't need to see my LTC. just opens up the 9mm cab and asks "How many?" They do have the same crappy guns there for the last few months. could put wax models of them up there....

Today there were no firearms in the gun cabinet at the Hudson, NH WMT. There were paintball guns in their place. No 9mm value packs either. They were both there last week. Went to the Amherst, NH store to see what was up. They had the guns and value packs. Amherst always had a wider selection of guns than the Hudson store.

Lunenburg Ma. has already stop selling shotguns and rifles... I wonder when and if they will stop selling ammo...cheap shit =\

I stopped there about 4 weeks ago to check out their ammo. They only had a couple of boxes of each type. It would be self defeating for them to say they are stopping ammo at that store due to sales, when they really don't have anything to buy. Last week the Hudson, NH store had over 30 boxes of the 100 rnd WWB 9mm value packs. maybe it was people getting stocked for our shoot last weekend.

Here's what I've heard:

MA- no ammo or guns
NH- ammo no guns
ME- ammo and guns

I was told it was simply based on regional demand.

Yup, nobody in MA shoots!! [rolleyes]

I picked up 3 boxes of each caliber I (and my Wife) shoot last Saturday, after the shoot and dinner (Hudson NH). They still had some value packs left on display, but not many.

I was told that when the WW in Athol went out of the Gun business they shipped there stock to Rindge, who was then overstocked, and sold a bunch of rifles a significant discounts...

I hope Rindge doesn't drop ammo, otherwise it's 1/2-3/4 hour drive in any direction for me to get ammo...

I feel the need to stock pile....

That's what they told me too. Cripes...a brick of .22's for less than $10 a box! We got thru .22's like water due to the number of students we get. Plus their 9mm prices are really decent too. Speaking as someone who owned a retail store, I can understand their decision to stop selling firearms if they aren't moving. I did the same thing with certain items in our store if they weren't selling. It doesn't make sense to keep something in inventory if it's not moving. Don't get me wrong - I don't like their decision, but I do understand it from the business sense.

Wal-Mart Sales

The one here in Epping doesn't do any firearm's sales from what I've seen. But they have to go up against Riley's, KTP and others in the area so getting rid of firearm's sales isn't a big deal to them. the paperwork is probably more trouble than it is worth to them. Hopefully the ammo sales stay put...I do buy my 22 RF there.[thinking]

So this means soon we will find the ammo in the discount isle??? This is bad for the people that want cheap ammo right away.. Good for the small business though!!!

Yeah, I suspect there is more than just one reason depending on location. I can't remember which NH Walmart said it wasn't just the low volume of firearm sales... but the paperwork hassles. MA is an all together different story I'm sure. I bet in MA our AG had his eyes on Walmart and scared them away....

Halifax - noguns but plenty of ammo coming in and out. Was told they'll keep selling ammo.

Heard Raynham was gun central. Other stores sent theirs to them.

Person I spoke to in North Dartmouth I think it was, said them and Fairhaven sent all their rifles to the Raynham Super Center and that all they would carry from now on was ammo.
I picked up an $80 sheet metal safe from Raynham a week later and they had plenty of gun goodies including rifles and ammo. Gotta love the Super Center. You can do your groceries and get anything you could ever need plus a shotgun and ammo all at one stop. They're even selling beer now, a new thing for those of us in Massachusetts. Talk about Wally Mart cornering the market in retail shoppinb.

Hudson, MA, still has ammo.
Try and find the guy with the key!
Long guns have been gone for some time now...
There's a young black guy working the gun counter - real nice guy. Got a couple of WWBs last week. He says that they're still going to keep selling ammo.

Since they're only 5-10 mins from Riverside Gun Club, it'd be stupid for them to stop selling it!

I stopped into WalMart in Seabrook, NH. No more guns for sale. Plenty of ammo, though, and the price hasn't gone up (YET). According to the salesclerk, they have no plans to discontinue ammo (also YET).

Just FYI...

Within the past week:

- I bought ammo at the Walpole Wal-Mart.
- I stopped at the North Reading Wal-Mart . . . they don't sell any ammo.

So, again NOT all Wal-Marts are stopping ammo sales. As for gun sales, not in any Wal-Mart in MA that I've been in lately. I think that they still had them in the Hudson, NH store, but will check on next stop there.

Last time I checked Hudson and Plastow are still selling ammo. Many Walmarts in Maine are still selling ammo and guns.
