So I'm still waiting to find out the results of my first time application for LTC-A. I live in a green town. Here is what the process has been like so far.

I submitted my paperwork roughly 60 days ago to the PD. 3 Weeks later, I received a call from the issuing officer at the PD and went in for an interview a few days later, which went very smoothly. He took my photos, prints, etc., and said he would then send it to the state PD or whatever. He said I could probably expect my LTC in the mail roughly 30 days later.

It has now been about 37 days, and nothing has arrived. I know that this is by no means unheard of. I guess I was planning to wait 40 days and then call and inquire what the state of my application is. Does this seem like a good idea? I would appreciate any advice in this regard.

Also, after submitting the app. and having my interview, I realized that there is actually a reasonable chance I could be denied. This is related to an out of state (Conn.) speeding ticket I received 8 years and never responded to, including a possible summons to court. I have been pulled over since then in MA, and also renewed my driver's license without issue, but I know this does not mean I am in the clear. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how likely it is I would be denied for something like this.

Thanks for providing a community for this topic.

Here's an update - I called at roughly the 40 day mark after my interview, the officer who answered said he would pass the call up to the issuing officer's office. No answer, so I left a message. 5-6 business have gone by and I've heard nothing. I guess I'm planning to call again on Monday, which will be the 1 week mark after leaving the first message, and about 47 days after my interview. Keep in mind it's now been over 2 months since I originally dropped off my application. I was just wondering if anyone could give any advice on this situation. Should I just assume I got denied due to the reasons I outlined above? I would think they are required to at least let you know you got denied.

Others can speak better for what things you can and can't get denied for, but I highly doubt a speeding ticket in another state is cause for unsuitability. I am sure you'll be fine in that regard, especially in a "green" town. I don't think it hurts to call again. It's not like you're calling everyday. A phone call once a week doesn't hurt IMHO. Good luck, hopefully all is well and you will get your LTC. [smile]

Thanks. To explain a little more, it started out as a speeding ticket, but when you don't pay it they mail you progressively more threatening letters, which I think maybe ends up as a bench warrant for your arrest. One of the reasons for denial is an outstanding arrest warrant in any state or federal jurisdiction, which technically a bench warrant is. However, I have read that these things are possibly cleared after 5 years. It has been about 8 years since I heard anything from Conn., and like I said I've renewed my license and stuff. I just don't know how intense the check is when it gets to the state PD level, like if they would find things not normally reported to them from other states.

I never paid it. I knew of other individuals who had done similar things with states that don't report these things to MA, so I just let it go away. I was only 18 at the time, and of course wasn't thinking of the possible implications when applying for an LTC 8 years in the future. I guess if I do get denied for it, it may not be a huge thing to clear up with the county involved in Conn. or whatever, probably paying the original ticket plus more fines or something. Seems like a pain in the ass though, and kinda ridiculous that someone could possibly get denied an LTC for what started as a civil infraction in another state. = /

I bet you're really wishing right now that you would have just paid that ticket. [thinking] I don't think it would be a disqualifier though, but again there are others here that hopefully will chime in that know MA Law better than I.

I know someone who didn’t pay a ticket and years went by and for some reason when he checked in a hotel the State Police came knocking and arrested him on a warrant for failure to conform. Neither him nor the Statie had any idea what that meant. He had to appear in court the next morning to clear it up. It all steamed from an unpaid ticket 10+ years prior.

I'm still waiting for the interview at local PD, however, the person in the front office said state of MA is very backed up - up to 8 weeks to turnaround the license.

good luck.

I would pay the ticket anyways and get that settled if you can call and get info and send them a check to get rid of it. you never know when it will creep uo on you again.

Well I never got a response to my phone call, but the my LTC arrived today in the mail! ALP!!! Wow, so relieved. It definitely took a long time, though. Note to self: don't check into any hotels any time soon.

Also, can anyone tell me the best range near Bedford that is open to the public?
