Retired Navy Rear Admiral James Barnett agreed. "We're for gun rights. Nobody is trying to affect anybody's second amendment rights," he said.

Instead the group of veterans will join Giffords and Kelly in their fight for "commonsense" changes in gun-ownership regulations, including expanded background checks and limiting of high-capacity magazines. Some members will lobby members of Congress; others will write op-eds, Kelly said. And some in the group are simply lending their high-profile names.

Hmm, all the Marine Corps infantrymen I know are vehemently opposed to further regulation on firearms, I don't see any Marine NCOs in there. Go figure.

Let's shed some light on "Former Lance Corporal Robert Raiche, Sr., US Marine Corps"

Robert E. Raiche, Sr.

Robert E. Raiche, Sr. is a native of Manchester, New Hampshire. He graduated in 1968 from Nathaniel Hawthorne College with a double major in Business Administration and Political Science and later received his Master of Arts in Political Science from the University of New Hampshire. Bob earned his Juris Doctorate from the UNH School of Law formerly known as Franklin Pierce Law Center in 1980, and was admitted to the New Hampshire and Federal Bar that same year. He was chosen “Lawyer of the Year” in 1993 by the membership of the Manchester Bar Association.

Bob’s political experience includes having served four years as Democratic Leader in the New Hampshire House of Representatives and eight years in that legislative body. He was a candidate for Governor of New Hampshire in 1972. At Nathaniel Hawthorne College he was a member of the Political Science faculty, Dean of Admissions, and Assistant to the President for External Affairs. Bob was appointed by President Jimmy Carter to serve as a U.S. Marshal for New Hampshire from 1977-1980. Bob has received numerous honors throughout his career, including his appointment as Honorary Consul to France, International and National Chairman of the Board of the Partners of the Americas, and President of Manchester’s Joliet Club. Bob also speaks fluent French

ETA: Let's not forget "Former Captain Bill Kingston, US Marine Corps"

“We are horrified that the Constitution of the country we fought for – myself in Vietnam - has been so twisted and tortured by the likes of Wayne LaPierre and the gun manufacturers he represents, and that you [Sen Ayotte] and other Senators are willing to go along with it. Responsible gun owners understand that what our Constitution says is that all of our rights have limitations. The First Amendment doesn’t give you the right to yell fire in a crowded theater and the Second Amendment does not give criminals the right to buy guns. Nor was it written to promote this paranoid fantasy that somehow we need to arm ourselves against a possibly hostile government. As a U.S. combat veteran, this sounds to me a lot like sedition. You can protect licensed dealers, and our children and yes, even your own political career, by standing up for what’s right and fixing our gun laws. It’s time to do the right thing.” – Bill Kingston, New Castle Promise

April 16 — To the Editor:

New Castle Promise is a group of citizens seeking reasonable solutions to gun violence. We believe it is possible to substantially reduce the number of firearms deaths in this country while at the same time protecting the rights of both legitimate gun owners and the public. On Monday evening, April 15, we had a meeting with our state Sen. Nancy Stiles about HB 135, the bill to repeal the Stand Your Ground law.

Sen. Stiles came to listen. There were about 30 people attending, including four physicians. We expressed sensible and articulate arguments for repealing this dangerous law. The mothers in the group were particularly effective. We also presented two recent scientific studies that demonstrated that states with the SYG law had no change in the level of crime, but significant increases in the number of white males killed and wounded by gunshots. We were able to give our senator many solid arguments that pointed out a number of problems with firearms legislation in New Hampshire. The senator listened very carefully and took notes.

This is a really good time for those who did not attend to contact the senator and express your support for HB 135. She told us the best way to do this is by e-mailing [email protected].

I am very proud to be a member of New Castle Promise.

Does anyone else see the problem with this line?

I was not in the .mil and even I see the problem.

There are no "sergeants" in the Navy. At least not by the title "sergeant," I'm sure there is a rank that is equivalent and commands the same respect from the enlisted.

According to Wikipedia, A "Petty Officer" is the equivalent rank.

Exactly.. And looking up the rest of the list it is just riddled with issues.. for example:

Lieutenant Colonel Victor J. Fehrenbach, US Air Force (Ret.), Dayton, OH
Lieutenant Colonel Victor J. Fehrenbach, US Air Force (Ret.), Dayton, OH

So nice, they mentioned him twice...

Former Private Second Class John Stickler, US Army, Los Angeles, CA

dafuq?! Is this something that is before even my time?

According to this, private second class is an E2. PFC is an E3.

Responsible - check
Reasonable - check
Sensible - check
Do the right thing - check
Common sense - I don't know what happened. His notes (talking points) must have stuck together

I wonder why he obsesses on the Constitution when he doesn't understand a thing in it? FOAD.

We also presented two recent scientific studies that demonstrated that states with the SYG law had no change in the level of crime, but significant increases in the number of white males killed and wounded by gunshots.

What? Hey, don't tell Saint Trayvon's mom, Sharpton, et al. They are pushing that the law is racist. I guess the "studies" say otherwise.

The First Amendment doesn’t give you the right to yell fire in a crowded theater

When there's a fire in said theater, it certainly does.

It also doesn't imply prior restraint; i.e. that theater patrons should be gagged lest they shout fire inappropriately.

There you have it.

OMG He speaks FRENCH!!!

WTF does that have to do with anything? Yea, the rest of the shit may be relevant but speaking FRENCH is a crime?

What wrong with French (the language)?

I mean aside from it being useless for communication (unless your bugout location is in the province of Quebec...) whats wrong with French? I took French in HS. I can't speak it but I can say I don't understand and can ask if they speak English [laugh].

I predict you are going to see much more of this - "pro-gun" people and groups being presented as for gun control in the media. They can then portray the rest of us as hard-core fanatics that we be discounted. We need to be very aware of this and counter it whenever we see it.

So of that list of veterans, most never made it past O-2 or E-4...you know the ranks you get based solely on time alone. Besides two O-3's (which used to essentially be given as well), you have a mythical Navy Sergeant, and an Air Force 'Sergeant'. Considering at one point the Air Force had E-4's who were 'Sergeants', you have a list of veterans who probably never served more than a few years and certainly none that ever progressed anywhere. Great group for sure...
