A friend has a 30 year old 336CS in 30/30. Claims it is new in the box, but there are some scratches from storage. Current used ones seem to be around $800, but I am guessing the older ones were higher quality and probably worth more. Anyone have an idea of value? NOT for sale, but owner is looking for value for insurance

$850 to $1000 for sure.

30 years is only 1991. That's not really considered 'older' for these guns but it is more desirable as a pre-Remington Marlin.

I have mine, my father bought it for me when I was in high school, probably about 86, He kept it after I went to college, and had it for 30 years, and I got it back right before he passed away. If my son only wants one of my guns when I'm gone, I hope it's this one, or my dad's .22 revolver.

I paid $350 for a minty old 336 a couple years ago. I paid a premium because it was from a buddy who owned it for 35 years.

So, OP instead of going on Gunbroker and scouring the internet looking at closed auctions past and present to try and get a value FOR HIS FRIEND, posts on here for a bunch of people to do the work for him so he can tell his friend and take all the credit.

Pretty f'n clever, hopefully nobody will catch on.

I will say $650 value.

I have a 1954 Marlin 336RC 35Rem. the wood shines & the action is the smoothest thing ever. I wouldn't part with it.
I have '51, '54, and '68 336s all in 35 Rem, they show honest use but yea, those actions are buttery slick. There is a local shop that has a late 60s vintage 336 in 444 Marlin That I have been going back and forth about. Just what I need, another caliber thats near impossible to find ammo for and I really have no use for..LOL

Got this for my 11 year old for Christmas last year... Marlin 39D .22....manufactured 1971... "Mint" Paid about $500. Internet says $ 800-1100....Maybe, maybe not. Don't care... It's a fabulous gun. My kid is lucky to have it and he knows it. He thought he was getting an airsoft and just about shit his pants when he saw this. And it's not his first gun. IMG_20201215_140953.jpg
