THE SPANISH INQUISITION!!!!!!!!!!!

-Mike

On Nov. 17, the state Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security will hold a morning hearing in the Statehouse. They'll hear testimony on current gun laws and gun club shows, and are also expected to consider new, more restrictive laws.

New and more restrictive? The incident, sad as it may be, happened at a range with, what I presume, was a legally owned firearm. If the people at the range did something illegal and/or negligent then charge them and take them to trial. Why punish everyone in the state?

I don't wish to sound callous about the death of this youngster, but the response of "let's pass some more laws" just ticks me off. [frown]

My work schedule is pretty rigid.
Is GOAL going? I don't mind going. In fact I am rather interested in it. I just don't know if I can tell my boss that I need the morning off for that reason.

That's what socialism is all about.

Well, duh! If the mass gun clubs do not police themselves as far as establishing and insuring compliance with thorough safety rules, we can fully expect the mass legislature to "help us out". Talk about shooting ourselves in our foot! A couple yahoos ruin it for all of us.

If you were a gangbanger and owned a gun illegally, and your little brother shot himself with it, and your mother obstructed a police investingation, then all this would go away………
And "we" end up getting a hearing for following all the rules and laws when an accident happens.

I wonder if they are going to hold a hearing on the boy and his dad that were killed in a motorcycle accident back last month as well. Maybe they will need to implement some more restrictive laws on motorcycle riding too....

stupid ass MA politicians.....

they just dont get it. As bad as it was..... it was an accident PERIOD.... PERIOD!!!!! deal with the individuals involved and hold them accountable and not make another stupid blanket law that effects the people that already know what they are doing.

I know I mentioned it before, but my concern isn't this particular bill (we knew it was coming). I just hope someone doesn't make a move to attach as an amendment, any of the other pending/stalled gun control bills... especially now that they're all giddy with delight over Obamas win.

Here comes the grandstanding gun-grabbers! Pretty predictable response. We live in Massachusetts; a place where most residents loathe inanimate, cold, black objects.

yeah and people like me that have Class 3 weapons and a green card and "Responsibly" do these shoots....... I wonder how this effects us?

what a shame [sad2]

We'll be lucky if the only thing that comes out of it is age restrictions on fully auto guns.

"Why do people want to teach their CHILDREN to shoot guns? Are they instructing them in how to kill?

What is the matter here is that shooting guns is made to seem like a GAME or a SPORT. With this type of thinking, then we have kids going on rampages in schools, on the street, and setting up the mindset for making war.

Why not teach kids something that is useful to society instead? There are many things that children can do for play, but why does so much of what children see and play with today have to include GUNS? This includes video games, TV programs, movies, the list goes on and on.... by jazzwoman November 08, 10:18 AM Report Abuse"

Some folks just can't keep their yap shut.

Sounds like another "expert". WTF was he thinking when he made that comment ? Talk about shooting yourself in the foot !

Questions grow after Uzi death of child
Call for new rules at gun shows
By Brian R. Ballou
Globe Staff / November 8, 2008
The micro Uzi machine pistol placed in the hands of an 8-year-old at a Westfield gun club's pumpkin shoot last month is so hard to handle that it has earned a nickname among gun enthusiasts: the "Fifty-fifty."

"That means there is a fifty-fifty chance that you'll either kill whomever or whatever you're aiming it at or kill yourself," said Steve Traver, owner of D&S Gunworks, a firearms company in Hancock. "That machine gun should have never been at that shoot. It doesn't have a grip and has such a high rate of fire that even adults have a lot of difficulty controlling it. It's designed for highly-trained bodyguards, not children."

He just helped the .gov put him out of business.

Wow that isn't going to end well for him.

If you really want to get yourself in a knot, read the Globe comments of folks who read the article and who no doubt want to ban all types of firearms. I'll bet every anti-gun advocate is calling their friends to join in posting on the Globe and more importantly to their state representatives.
We have to counter with thoughtful comments and calls to our state representatives. Some of you are actually lucky enough to have a representative that listens.
Best regards.

I find it quite interesting that after any firearms-related tragedy, they want to come after ME and MY guns, even though I nor my guns weren't involved.

When a drunk driver careens into a flock of kittens on the side walk they immediately go after the drunk driver. And righteously so. They don't call for a ban on all cars, or go after everyone else that also happens to own a Ford Taurus.

[rolleyes]

My thoughts exactly. My complaint is that being a responsible, licensed F/A Uzi owner, I would never hand it over to a 8 year old especially a Micro.

I wish people and the law makers would understand that these were not civilian class 3 owners. This is a company that profits off giving these weapons to unlicensed people. That being said I think they made a mistake on their part and should of known that weapon is hard to control even for an adult and was way to much weapon for a child without the proper supervision.

Anti gun folks really don't understand the "value" of using guns recreationally or for sport. They truly don't. If something is black forget about it... they are automatically evil.

However what is more perplexing is that our military uses them everyday to help protect our freedom... yet we as Americans seem to be losing more and more freedom each day. I think the MG incident was an absolute tragedy but it's by no means a common occurance at all. Society should spend more time keeping bad guys behind bars and drunk drivers off the streets... time better spent IMO.

You know what is really screwed, does this fifty/fifty phrase even exist? I googled it and the only actual references are the damned glob article. I think this f***up just made this phrase up. Does he want his name in lights that much? BTW, it appears democratic underground has picked this article up too.

I've never heard or seen the phrase "fifty fifty" about the mico uzi in my entire life and neither has anyone I know in the machinegun business.

Its just a phrase that some reporter or antigun a**h*** just made up to enhance their position.

You mean renting those weapons under controlled conditons and supervision right? Don't give the antis anymore ammo by your phrasing.

Anyone know what time the hearing will be at? I might go if I can.

I'd like to go too, but in any case I will be writing my rep and state senator. I encourage you all to do likewise.

(BTW: email is ok, but follow it up with honest to goodness PAPER!)
