Sgt. Tomasie Makes It Three In A Row With Latest Win

Sedro-Woolley, WA — June was a very good month for Sgt. Travis Tomasie of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) as he picked up his third Limited Division title at the United States Practical Shooting Association’s (USPSA) Area 1 Championships held June 26-29 in Sherwood, Oregon. Earlier in the month Tomasie walked away with the Limited titles in the Area 7 and Area 5 regional shooting matches.

Tomasie, who is currently stationed in Georgia at Ft. Benning, won eight of the 12 stages and held the lead for nearly the entire match, challenged only by second place shooter Phil Strader who briefly took the lead on three stages before relinquishing it back to Tomasie.

“As a native of Kirkland, Washington, Travis is a hometown favorite at the Area 1 Championships and it was great to see him back home and winning yet another title. Travis is one of the best Limited Division shooters in the country and his three Area titles in June alone prove that. I think he’ll be on everybody’s short list of potential winners at this year’s National Championships in September,” said Bruce Gary, USPSA’s Area 1 Director.

Rounding out the top five in the Limited Division were Phil Strader and Mike Seeklander, both from Owasso, Oklahoma, finishing second and third respectively. Tom Dean of Stanwood, Washington took fourth and John Harma of Phoenix, Arizona finished fifth.

The USPSA Area 1 Championships were held June 26-29 at the Tri-County Gun Club in Sherwood, Oregon. A total of 300 top shooters competed in USPSA’s Open, Limited, Limited-10, Production, Revolver and Single Stack divisions. The USPSA Area 1 region includes Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming but competitors from Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Texas, Virginia and British Columbia, Canada attended.
