Meraux’s Max Michel Picks Up Another Shooting Title

Sedro-Woolley, WA — Max Michel, a native of Meraux, Louisiana and member of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU), captured yet another major shooting title as he dominated the field of Open Division shooters at the United States Practical Shooting Association’s (USPSA) Area 7 Regional Championships. The win represents the fourth major shooting title of the year for the defending national champion.

Michel, a Staff Sergeant with the famed Army Marksmanship Unit stationed at Georgia’s Ft. Benning, won all but one of the 10 stages in the match. Only fellow USAMU teammate Spc. KC Eusebio managed to best Michel edging him out on the second stage by less than three match points. Eusebio’s strong performance secured second place and a coveted one-two finish for the Army.

“Max and KC’s one-two punch gives new meaning to the phrase ‘Army Strong’. Their outstanding performance, and that of their teammates Sgt. Travis Tomasie and Spc. Lee Dimaculangan in the Limited Division, shows why the Army Marksmanship Unit is where shooting champions are made,” said Rob Boudrie, USPSA’s Area 7 Director.

John Guida of Lancaster, New York finished third but topped all Open Division shooters from the region which is made up of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. Matt Joe of Swansea, Massachusetts and Mark Mazzotta of Westerly, Rhode Island rounded out the top five finishing fourth and fifth respectively.

“John is one of the top Open pistol shooters in the region, and the country, as his solid third place finish demonstrates. I expect that come September, Area 7 will be well represented at the national championships,” said Boudrie.

The USPSA Area 7 Championships were held at the Harvard Sportsmen’s Club in Harvard, Massachusetts. A total of 188 top shooters competed in USPSA’s Open, Limited, Limited-10, Production, Revolver and Single Stack divisions. The USPSA Area 7 region includes Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont but shooters from Georgia, Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania as well as Canada and Jamaica attended.
