The Corps’ 2019 Budget Estimates justified the adoption of the new pistol, stating: "The Modular Handgun System will be purchased to replace the legacy M9, M9A1, M45A1, and M007 pistols with a more affordable and efficient pistol for maintenance. The MHS also provides modularity and greater shooter ergonomics over the current models which will allow for more accurate fire for military personnel of different sizes."

Perhaps not. The volume that they will be selling to .gov at drives down cost and don’t forget no distributor or retail mark up.

Look at a p320- it’s not a 1911. Built to be produced @ a low cost but with crazy modularity.

Damn. I want to buy a 320 for $180. That has to be an error.

It's not an error, military pays no FET, no middlemen, and has a huge bulk rate because of the size of the contract... plus I doubt the "warranty" obligations for the pistol are the same. They either buy spares or they're maintained in
house... doubt the guns will ever see the sig factory ever again.

IIRC not all that long ago basic level M4s had a unit cost of like $500 or less
