Graduating from pistol safety course on Sunday, Making appointment with Local PD tomorrow, and put a deposit down on a Beretta 96 Inox brigadier which I chose for first gun. Any info on gun???

96 is the .40 cal

where did you find a 96 inox brigadier? theyre discontinued and how did you put a deposit down with out first having a license???

the berettas are sweet shooting guns...they point really naturally and are designed to go bang almost every time...i have a 92 inox...the inox finish makes the gun heavier and recoil easier to deal with and the brigadier version has a heavier slide reducing felt recoil even more...however is a pretty large gun and unless your a larger person i wouldnt recommend it as a first choice for a ccw...mine only goes to the range with me as its 3x as heavy as my usual carry gun

I know that it sounds ass-backwards to pick something that I have never fired before, but I had alot of thinking on it. First thing first.. I have always liked the look of the beretta 9. I wanted something stainless finish. Alot of people told me about the stopping power of a .40 cal. and so on...Eveyone that I have spoken with said above all.." get something that you will be happy with, so you don't try to trade it later. Since I was a little kid I have always seen the 92 model on tv shows, and so on. I have always loved the look of it. And as far as being able to shoot it, well I am about one of the most stubborn people that I know, and I really don't care how long it takes me to learn how to shoot it. And finally all the reading that I have done on the 92/96 has been positive. As far as wanting info on it, I just was trying to reach the people that already have one so they could give me any heads up on any quirks that I will be looking forward to.

I don't see why he couldn't put a deposit down. The dealer wouldn't be able to sell and transfer the gun to you!...but they could take a deposit if the person really wants THAT particular gun.

I don't understand how you can put a deposit on a gun when you don't have a license. If you came back with a class B could you even be able to purchase this gun? I don't know of any FFL's that would do that for you. Plus, it could take several months to get your permit and the gunshop has to tie this gun up for that long. I agree with Rob about putting a deposit on something then doing the research. Most people do it the opposite but to each his own.

Good luck on it though,
Pete

Hey, different strokes for different folks. I actually did the same thing. I paid for a brand new Walther P99 maybe 2 months before I had my LTC...Never shot the gun, just held it in the store. Being the 007 fanatic that I am, you can see the initial attraction. On top of that, it fit my hand well, it was 9mm, and it could fairly easily be a CCW. When the day came to pick up my LTC, my day went like so: Pick up LTC, pick up P99, go shoot P99. Awesome day.

Note: I lived in CT at the time, so the dealers may think differently there, but I still don't see why a MA dealer couldn't accept a deposit...It's only a deposit, not a complete sale.

Well, my local shop said that they were looking into it for availability, but since I seen it in the new catalog, I assumed that it was available. I find out for sure mid week. And as far as a deposit without licsense, it's more like store credit. The local shop said that they were gonna try to get it in inventory, and I will keep building up my store credit until I get my LTC. Getting back to it though, I hope you're wrong about it being discontinued. And if they are, then I need to call Beretta and ask why they are still in the catalog.

Hoping that it will not come back with class b. I live in a shall issue town, and I have always been a model citizen. there is no reason why I should'nt get my class a

plus, on top of handing in my ltc app. at the PD, i will be handing in an app for aux or volunteer officer so I am hoping that that might help a little as well.

Well, the 96 Inox shows up in Beretta's online catalog as well.

http://www.berettausa.com/product/product_pistols_main.htm

A LTC-B is useless for a Special/Aux PO (if they allow you to be armed), so if a Dept "wanted you", they wouldn't want to issue you a LTC-B. On the other hand, just filing an application is never a guarantee that they "want you" or will appoint you. I served as a Special PO for 18 years and I know people who told me that they applied for years and were never even called for an interview . . . while at the same time others were called for interviews and appointed within weeks of applying.

Good luck in both cases.

look onm the four seasons websites under new handguns...you will see the beretta 92/96 models were discontinued in favor of the new ninety-two which will be coming out shortly

and i was speaking from personal experience when i asked about the deposit...a month before i turned 21 four seasons had a 3rd gen glock 19 that i wanted to buy and i couldnt even handle let alone put a deposit on the gun...i had been a customer for years and knew carl very well but he told me he couldnt allow me to put a deposit down in case i wasnt issued the license or got a class b instead...guess he was just being cautious

well.. I can understand why a shop would want to be cautious, but like I said earlier in this post, I live in a shall issue town, no record, no reason not to get my class a ltc. I guess I am just trying to go off wishful thinking.

I talked to a few gun shops before recieving my LTC (Four Seasons was not one of them) and none of them had a problem with putting money down on a gun before I recieved the license. It was treated as a layaway and you had X number of days to pay it off. Once paid they would hold the gun until the license came in. I am not sure how it would have worked, if the license came back as a Class B or if I was denied outright, as far as getting my money returned. I had a backup plan if that was the case so I never gave it a second thought.

Class this Sunday? Darn, the 50 yard range will be full again.

Another thought...don't some police carry their firearms based on their police ID's rather than a LTC? It seems I've known officers locally who did not have a LTC.

Most of our PD carried on the badge (and would not carry off duty) back when I joined the PD in 1978. Chief at that time offered them free LTCs (now the law allows for it, back then it didn't) and most refused and grumbled about the "pressure to get a LTC".

Nowadays the LTC is a pre-req for many towns in the hiring process. It gives some assurance that the candidate is likely to pass a background check before the town spends $ on doing an investigation of the candidate.

We have a dept policy that requires officer to an LTC. Before the policy, many didn't and even now some expire and they forget to renew. Years ago, I saw LTC's for LEO's that had "Police Officer Duties" as the reason for issue.

You can put a deposit on anything. The catch here is possession and transfer
of title. When he gets the license the dealer can legally xfer ownership.
I really don't see a problem.

I must say, I am a little nervous about my interveiw with local pd. Not because I have any disqualifications, but because it seems like, from lots of other input, that the pd really has the say on whether or not I get class a. I plan on writing any lawful purpose, the fact that I was born and raised in town, my clean record, and I will be filing out an app. for aux p.o., I work O.T. sometimes at medical centers overnites or weekends solo for construction, and I think that most importantly I have learned that it is so easy to get your ltc revoked permenatly that to maintain your right to an ltc, you have to be a model citizen, and I can't imagine that the pd wouldn't issue a class a to someone that vows to follow the law, insight of what could be lost if not. Do you think that after I explain my reasoning that I will have a tough time?

are there any events that are held by the members on this site so we can all meet the people that are very helpful on this website. I must give hats off to all of you. In such a short time that I have been posting here, i really have valued all of your opinions and info. thankyou all

Yep. We've had a few dinner/lunch get-togethers, we've had a couple of shoots as well.

Hmm... sounds like it's time for another lunch. Watch for the thread Off-Topic; think I'll start a new one.
