A University of New Hampshire student was accidentally shot in the back when a bullet flew through the wall of her apartment in The Lodges at West Edge on Thursday evening. Durham police found that Brian Nguyen, 24, the woman’s neighbor, and also a UNH student, had accidentally discharged a handgun while he was in the process of dry firing it, according to police. Nguyen was charged with one count of felony reckless conduct and was released on personal recognizance bond. Police say the case is still under investigation, but no additional charges are anticipated. Nguyen will be arraigned at Strafford County Superior Court in Dover. A date has not yet been set.

wonder if he just moved to NH from a different state for school, and the first thing he did was buy a gun

and then this happened

It’s always crappy to read these types of stories, so I hope the young lady is going to be alright. Being “held for observation” is probably better than “critical but stable.”

@kevblah makes a good point that the guy who made the shot may have been new to firearms. Unfortunately, incidents like this give us all a bad name and provide more fodder for the antis to rewrite the Constitution.
