Two Gardena police officers have been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of using their position to acquire firearms and illegally selling more than 100 of the weapons to others, including a convicted felon.

Det. Carlos Miguel Fernandez, 42, Officer Edward Yasushiro Arao, 47, face a combined five felony counts, including conspiring to deal in firearms without a license, according to the indictment unsealed Friday in U.S. District Court.

In one 2017 sale, Fernandez knew he was selling to a straw buyer who wasn't the actual person getting the gun, according to the indictment. The person who eventually received the weapon was a convicted felon banned from possessing firearms.

This story clearly drives home the point legal gun owners have been trying to make for years. And what is the point ? No matter how many gun laws are in place that restrict the legal ownership of guns there will always be people selling ILLEGAL weapons. And no gun law ever written can ever change that.

Obviously the officers should have known better. But paper crimes here. Straw purchase and paperwork lies and just more laws to make more criminals. It's nice to see the potentiality of the fair and equal application of the law to avoid that double standard. But I still disagree with the laws.

Anyway, the protesting snowflakes should read about this. There are actual gun control laws on the books should law enforcement choose to enforce those laws. That would be unlike what occurred in Parkland FL.

"...the two officers exploited their positions to deal 101 firearms to people barred from owning or selling such weapons unless they are in law enforcement or the military."

1.) Are we talking about NFA items that are on the streets because of these "sworn protectors"?
2.) WHY IN THE HELL is law enforcement exempt from the restrictions that us citizens are subject to? Do we not face the same threats as they do?

Keep in mind, these are cops selling guns legal to own, but not available for sale in CA, to people who are legally allowed to own them (save for that one they appear to have screwed up on). This is the CA version of selling unmodified glocks to consumers...

CA created a black/grey market where cops can purchase things and no one else. Here is my shocked face that someone engaged in sales in this grey market.

No, these are not NFA items. They are glocks, sigs and other run of the mill stuff that is no longer available in CA because of the micro stamping bull shit.

Let’s see how this plays out.
"Ahem, a few bad apples....paid administrative leave....the officers decided to take an early retirement."

Because they are members of the elite. Only LEOs have the necessary training and advanced knowledge to be able to safely handle and store these dangerous items. You can't handle guns like they can. You shouldn't worry about this, though...just make sure you lower your eyes and take your hat off when you are near one of these heroes. :(

thats whats going on in mass also and the AG went after Outback arms for selling guns to LEO but im doubtful the AG will go after those officers who flipped thier LEO privileged guns on the FTF market.

And if guns were banned, the incentive to sell guns would be greater as the price would shoot up, no pun intended, a la econ 101. Again, only cops and criminals would have guns, and we'd be stuck between these two. Btw, my colleagues argue against guns still saying that the police will defend us in case of violence. What useless, hollow shet-fer-brains nonesense!

The more they clamp down on LEO the more likely it is as some point they will stop thinking the rules dont apply to them and start seeing things from our persepective. Pipe dream but who knows.

"They" being the District Attorneys, are in the same bed as LE. Fat chance of change unless the people demand enforcement of the law.

they would never clamp down on LEOs, never, it's the pillar of power. Who is going to confiscate guns and do their dirty work? It certainly won't be snowflakes, they need someone with guns to do their bidding.

You mean like MA has done over the years?
