A homemade gun and a hatchet were discovered in a man’s carry-on bag at the Portland International Jetport in Maine by TSA officials on Wednesday, according to New England TSA spokesperson Daniel Velez.

Velez stated that a 50-year-old man traveling to Philadelphia went through airport security and was found to have what TSA is calling a “homemade firearm” in his bag. The device looked like a pipe, Velez said — it was a cylindrical shape, and appeared to have been made of a silver metal, with various holes on its body and a knob with the hole protruding from one end.

Who are these people? The ones who think there are no issues with bringing a hatchet or improvised firearm in your carry-on. Have they never been to an airport before? Or later on in that same article, that guy bringing a loaded gun into Logan and didn't even have a permit. How did that play out in their head when they made that decision? Like, "Imma gonna tuck it real deep in my pants and they'll never find it?"

The stupidity is fascinating.

It doesn't take much work to think who "these people" are.

I bet the TSA agent that confiscated my Tactical pen and ResQme key chain Tuesday wishes he found something like that so he could really feel like a big hero that saved the day.
I've carried both of those on flights for years with no issue. But the DNA catcher was a no no. No matter that I have sharper tweezers in my make up bag.
The ResQme got taken because of the tiny seat belt cutter but he let me keep the flat multi tool with the flat head screw driver and an even larger seat belt cutter.
And yet anyone can get a can of soda on the plane, flatten the middle, tear it in half and have 2 sharp edged weapons

And they didn't care at all about the hot chocolate BOMB my niece gave me.
I mean it is clearly labeled as a BOMB!

 [rofl]

You'd be surprised. I've flown with something as innocuous as tweezers, a travel size one in case you get a splinter or something. Leaving USA, entering, exiting several countries. On my way out of one country they said I could not fly w/it. They also were hassling some musician guy about his audio equip. He flew into the country with it and they wouldn't let him go out.

Depending on where you go, the personnel in charge of entry/exit, unlike the USA's TSA with publicly viewable policy on what is acceptable or not, can range from private security, military, police, etc... some with a wide range of discretion and lack of standardization on what's OK to fly with or not.

That guy was a felon too, he was just indicted a couple weeks ago. He’s going to club fed. That was a stupid mistake I bet. Criminals are stupid that’s why they are criminals they could not survive an honest life.

Tac pens were OK for years. I always carried it clipped in an outside pocket on my pack. I wondered if the guy just wanted it since it was a nicer one. I Googled it at the gate and now Tac pens fall to the whims of the TSA who can take whatever they want if they decide it's dangerous. He also spent a lot of time examining the tourniquet in my trauma kit.

Trying so hard to not argue with people commenting on Boston.com complaining about him not being arrested. Stay in your own lane massachusetts

The inbred???? [rofl]

Way back when I would fly from Logan to Newark to hunt with a buddy on his farm in south Jersey. On boarding I'd give the pilots the shotgun in a soft case to keep in the cockpit. The ammo was in a carry on. No issues. Jack.

Of course. And the pilot was one of the Wright brothers.

Can only imagine what their TSA looks like
i flew out of portland a few years ago. i was drinking a poland spring bottle of water right in front of the security guy. bottle was 1/4 full at best. he made me put it through the xray machine then told me i couldn't take it past his checkpoint. i asked why and he said it could be explosive material and it's over 4 oz of liquid. i pointed out that he literally watched me drink some of said liquid plus it was a 12 oz bottle that was 1/4 full, that would be 3oz. my better half quickly escorted me away sans water bottle. tsa is full retard. and that particular tsa agent looked like barney fife.
