Truck gun

Lol "Truck gun". If you want to buy another gun just be honest, none of us will mock you for it. With that said I keep an M1 Carbine with 3 mags in my trunk.
Umm....30-30 in the gun rack Pete??? LOL

I keep a Savior 36" bag with my 9mm mossberg mc2c conceal carry, a glock 21, 3mags for each. A ruger 9mm PC takedown carbine with 3- glock boom sticks, and an AK pistol with 3 - 30 round mags. If I wanted to I can break down the PC and keep it in the front pocket and put an AR in the second slot....that would be essentially all my tactical stuff in one neat little kit. That bag would be Fargin heavy though....already is.

Once I get the glock 47 police return due in this week, delayed because of the hurricane... I'll keep the 21 in the nightstand...just so all the mags fit the 9mm PC as well.

Note if i was out west killing coyotes and stuff, I'd probably put my .308 18" heavy barrel ruger american in there, or put an AR in there with a longer range optic, or a Ruger american .223 that takes AR mags. I like the idea of stuff using the same ammo and mags.

I gave my buddy a call this morning because as I was driving by his ranch there was a big ole coyote in one of his fields. He has ducks, geese and chickens nearby so yotes are not welcome, ever. He asked me if I happened to have a gun in my truck. I was embarrassed to say that I did not.

So now I'm on the hunt for a truck gun. I think 223 bolt action. I was considering 17hmr but I think the 223 would be more versatile. Suggestions on one that you would trust to take a 300 yard shot with on a yote that won't break the bank? I was leaning toward cz 600 alpha. Ruger Americans can be had for less but I see some mixed reviews on them.
CZ 600 Alpha = awesome rifle. I have one in 6.5cm. Sub MOA gun.

If you are going to be shooting coyotes that far, I would go with 6.5cm. The cost of ammo is not bad, it actually shoots great with SB 140grain ammo, their cheapest.

Most guns in 6/5 manbun are sub moa....my ruger american out of the box with that flimsy ass stock shot 1" at 300 yards with hornady match.

Then I put a Magpul hunter stock on it....and handloads are crazy accurate. Immoklee has a 1000 yard range, I just havent gotten there yet.

CZ Alpha would be a great truck gun....think they have a shorter barrel version which would be perfect.

Added bonus is that whatever carbon- based target yo hit you most likely would not have to dispose of it as it will simply evaporate. Very convenient.

Keep in mind if you keep a gun in the truck during the hot humid KY day and then bring it into an air conditioned house you'll be really susceptible to rust. This is my first choice but sometimes I put a cheap pump shotgun also/instead.

Pretty sweet looking rig I had to squint to see it. What do you use for your rattle can job? I want to dress up my M&P Sport lower/Radical upper build.

6.5cm one cartridge to rule them all.

What would our Italian friend say if I showed up with a rebarrelled M1 in same?
He might give you a history lesson:

The Garand was originally going to be chambered in the . 276 Pedersen, but the logistics of changing all of the infantry's guns (including machine guns) to a new round was judged cost-prohibitive, so the Garand was chambered in . 30-06

The M1 was supposed to be basically a 7mm.

Back on topic, I think peterk123 would be better served by the non-manbun .223. He's going to have opportunities to pop smaller varmints for rancher friends. 6.5 CM would be a bit much for gophers (ground squirrels), woodchucks, and possibly praire dogs.

I just might keep my ar in the truck for now. That thing needs to be abused a bit. I've been too easy on it so far. I have my own load worked up that is accurate out to 300. Probably further, just haven't tried yet.

Good choice, much better than a bolt action IMO, and I have plenty of bolt actions. The possibility of having multiple shots on a coyote, or multiple coyotes, in open terrain gives the semi-auto a significant advantage over a bolt.

If you do decide to get a bolt, I would match it right up with the one you already have in 308 and just get another Tikka in 223, that way each gun handles/operates the same.

Speaking of varmints, Thursday night we are going after raccoons. Word is their fat is right up there with bear fat. And I'm on my last jar of bear tallow. I was thinking subsonic 22lr suppressed and going for head shots. Thoughts? I've never hunted them before.

I haven't hunted them but knew a lot of guys who did. I have dispatched a few caught in leg hold traps. Their noggins aren't very tough and a head shot with that 22LR will do the trick. They are otherwise physically pretty tough, so I wouldn't count on 22LR for body shots.

Ya, I figured body shots would be a no go. Plus, I want to preserve any fat and not get lead shrapnel in it.

Now you have me thinking about a tractor rifle. This is first year of having a tractor with an enclosed cab, so rifle wouldn’t get too trashed. I would get a lot of porcupine, a few raccoon, and maybe one coyote per year. I’m leaving for deer camp on Thursday so will have plenty of time to think on this

Okay, it's one thing to have a pickup with no rifle in it, but a tractor? As my rancher so eloquently put it, "They say a horse less man is no man at all. I feel the same way about a man with no gun ( in a tractor)" 🤠

Good luck at deer camp. Where, how many days, weapon of choice, and post pics!

Subsonic 22 inside 100 is absolutely no problem for racoons. We had some rabid ones in the thicket on the edge of the property and agulia super colibri from a Tikka t1x in the brain at about 100 yards was an instant stop.

Well shame on me. I’ll have to get that tractor equipped pronto.

Northern NY. I am north of Adirondak park, 8 miles from Canada in St Lawrence County.

A week with muzzle loader, Then five weeks rifle. Deer, coyotes with prejudice, bobcat, bear if a good size one. (All on trail cameras past week.) If we get some warm weather maybe take a few days on ducks
