What a shame!
We abandoned $$$$$$$$ of war machine equipment in Afghanistan, you would have thought they would have given it to Ukraine

Maybe not though, ‘cause that would have made sense

Who says it's not? Pretty sure the Afghans probably still hate the Russians, and money is like a fat chick in a bar at closing time.

They weren't abandoned by the US. They were abandoned by the useless ANA that while widely known to be not exactly loyal our US flag officers spent about 20 years lying about their readiness and dedication.

If you need someone to blame find US soldiers with stars. Theres your problem.

Rest assured that any weapons and equipment we provide to Ukraine will be “gifted” to Putin in a not distant future.

The Russians seem to be giving up their own stuff daily in Ukraine, I doubt they’ll get much wars spoils. The dog shot Russian military has their hands full right now.

Yeah, this is exactly what happened. We left equipment for the ANA to use, just like we left for the ARVN back in 1975.

If I recall correctly, we were expecting the ANA to hold out long enough against the Taliban to give us 6 weeks to get everyone evacuated. They held out for about 3-4 days. I was deployed that summer and I remember going to the Intel briefs at the beginning and end of my 12-hour shift and seeing how far the line had moved in that time.

Why should this Government give a sh^t,the power to be are getting a kick back for leaving them there.
They have our money to buy more to send to Ukraine, and it's all a win,win for the c^*k s^*king politicians.

Yeah - except for one thing. I keep reading how the defense industry simply can't keep up with the numbers of equipment that is being lost in the Ukraine.

Maybe it's not what they intended to do - the neocons maybe just wanted a nice little war in Ukraine with a steady flow of orders of equipment , you know - just enough to keep the pipeline happy. But that all got up-ended when the Russians unexpectedly proved harder to defeat. So now you've got a war of attrition in Ukraine - which is something that the Russians are well-familiar with and have apparently adapted into pretty well. Whereas NATO and the US - have not.

The neocons who have driven the US into war in Iraq, and Afghanistan - and now Ukraine..... are idiots. There isn't a single war they've pushed that the US has won. There's a definite possibility with Ukraine that we end up getting out asses nuked over the whole thing. Which would be just about the dumbest thing ever. The US gets nuked over phucking Ukraine , yet another place that half the country couldn't even find on a map. Point here is: If their plan was to leave behind all the equipment so the defense industry could get more orders -it was a exceedingly stupid gambit.

I'd also add that : we're not looking at a situation like before WW2, where Patton trained with cars that had plywood tank cut-outs on them and the budget was small. The US defense budget is friggin HUGE - like the largest in the world. So where has all the money been going? If we had a really small defense budget - it might be expected that inventory would be low and equipment would be outdated and needed to be replaced. But that's not the case.

During World War II, 90% of U.S. defense enterprises were state-owned. After privatization, already during the Vietnam War, the majority of enterprises ended up in private hands. Further this trend only intensified, and after the collapse of the USSR, no one saw the need for a large US military-industrial complex. The remaining 5 big giants started to earn money on arms trade abroad and production of new unique, expensive weapon systems, such as F-35, which are accompanied by colossal cost overruns. All this to the detriment of conventional systems that used to be on the assembly lin

In March of this year, U.S. Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition William Laplante told the New York Times that the U.S. has “let production lines go cold and watched their parts become obsolete.” The Wall Street Journal writes that U.S. Defense Department leaders now estimate that it will take five or six years to reverse former production cuts.

However, the U.S. doesn’t have that time to militarily support Ukraine and Taiwan. In an attempt to make up for lost time, the U.S. Congress announced the creation of a Technical Industry and Government Task Force consisting of civilian and military experts, as well as industry specialists, who will develop recommendations for the early production and transfer of necessary weapons to U.S. allies.

I don't personally understand the outrage over this. The equipment was left intentionally. It's all apart of that money making policy we have with arms.

People didn't seem very upset about Afghanistan during the 15+ years that it was an obvious failure but plenty of people are pretending to be upset about all the shit left behind when we gave up on it finally.

The TV owns people.
