I have a question regarding purchasing a shotgun through a private sale from an out of state resident. Can I simply make the purchase and register it in Mass within the seven day period? Sellor does not have LTC. Buyer does. Long gun in question is
a O/U shotgun.

Not legal, you'd be looking at time in Club Fed!

Fed Law Mandates that all interstate transfers MUST go thru an FFL (any state for long guns, new owner's state only for handguns). [Only exception is "inheritance" from deceased but not applicable here.]

LenS is ahead of me and correct as always, it may be worth it to see if there is a drastic difference in transfer fee from the FFL in MA vs. the FFL in whichever state you're friend lives in.

If you transfer it through an FFL in another state, you have 7 days to "register" it via the FA-10 in MA
