Since the service list has turned towards this subject, I thought it would be a good idea to create it's own thread. If you know of a date/event/etc. where they'll be collecting - post it here.
:D

Franklin Lodge will be running it's drive in early December. I don't know the exact date yet, but I'll post it when we've finalized it. I'm guessing now that it will be the second Sunday, Dec 12th, but that's only a guess.

I will be there for the duration, so if anyone wants to come down and donate, please introduce yourselves! We'll have refreshments, including TLK's justly famed version of an old family recipe known as "Mommy cake" (chocolate chip sour cream coffee cake - I've had guys come 25 miles for a Lodge meeting when they knew that Kath's baked goods were going to be there for the after-meeting collation).

Yeah sorry, I am responsible for that one.

Let me check tomorrow at work to see if we are sending Marines to that one at the Franklin Lodge. I know we have about 10 events in the next month that will require some of us to go to that actual event. The only one for sure that I know I am doing next is the one here in Hudson at the Legion with some rich people...I forget the guys name but I here it's a good one.

Hey TYPOE, I see you live in Bellingham. I was just there last Friday at the Toys R Us for about 4 hours doing T4T

Nope. That's for the young Devil Dogs to do. I just jotted my name down for a couple events just to show my support. We have enough workerbees for that stuff. I am telling you man, T4T is a big headache. The sad thing is it's for a good cause but we who are the mix of all of it just see it as another check in the box for the year. We are not only supporting our Battalions in Iraq but we also have our regular jobs to do, Funerals, CACO calls and hundred other hats to fill and then there is T4T. I don't mean to sound harsh but I can't wait until it's over.

Only downside to Toys for Tots is that I have been told (love to be proven wrong) that they will not accept any military or firearms related toys of any sort!

The PC crowd got their way Len. [roll] I heard that too.

Well I took this question to the T4T bubba here and he said there are really no restrictions. If toy guns come in, they get sent out along with the rest of the toys. If the united way or whoever actually issues the toys out sees it and decides to pull it out of the bag and toss it, that's on them. As far as the MCRT4T box, they will not deny you putting in a toy gun or some military action figure and when they come in here and we sort them out, we don't toss them either. But see we only bring the toys in and sort them according to gender and age. We do not issue the actual toys out to the young whipper snappers. Some whoever organization does that and we don't know what their policy is as far as appropriate toys.

I know me personnaly as a father and hunter, do not allow toy guns in my house. I don't want to confuse my kids with guns. Not saying that it is bad but that is just me and how I raise my family. I am bringing up two boys 8-5 who are future hunters and I want them to know only one gun and that's the real one. I don't want them to be confused between a toy and a real one. I know it sounds babyish for older kids but these days, you have to wonder and really be careful.

Gunny,

I agree 100% with you here! We chose not to have children, but if we had done so there wouldn't have been any toy guns in my house either. They'd have to settle for learning about the real McCoy and treat it with proper respect and safety.

That's good to know Gunny (about the toy guns), so I guess it's up to the accepting org that decides the issue. Well, considering the folks that hand them out, I'd rather donate something I know won't get tossed.

Franklin Lodge Toys For Tots drive

OK, it's official: Franklin Lodge AF&AM of Grafton, MA will be having our drive on Saturday, December 10th from noon to 4 PM (1200-1600).

There will be refreshments served, and if I can get the Master to bring it down in his van, there will be a large 4-lane slot car setup for kids to take a turn at. I will, of course, be there the whole time.

TSBH, you're cordially invited to come down! :D As is, indeed, everyone else. Bring some good toys, and let's see if we can't make the Marines bring TWO vans to truck everything back!

Derek? You coming? Grafton's only about 15-20 miles from Spencer.

I will edit this post with directions once my Lodge website is back up again. Seems to be having problems with the server again. [cry]

I should be able to stop by and make a donation. [wink]

GREAT!

Now... would you like to wear your uniform, so we have a uniformed Marine? If I can't get TSBH to come down, that is! (or am I pushing my luck here? :D )

Hey, AFAIK, we'll have retired Army, Navy and Air Force brothers there, so we really need a Marine to complete the set!

There is now way I would ever fit in my dress blues again. [wink]

I believe Auburn Sportsman's Club is having an archery shoot with proceeds going to TFT sometime the beginning of December.

Oh, well. Too much

?

So come on down anyway and say Hi.

Too much everything. It's easy to stay in shape when you're 20 and forced to run 20 miles a week.

If I make three miles now I'm happy. I will stop by though.

The guy just came and dropped off 2 collection boxes at my building and a bunch of posters to plaster around the office.

In past years it was impossible to get them to come empty the boxes when they got full, so we had to keep adding boxes.

Adam

OK, this is it!!

The drive is tomorrow!

I will be there from noon to 4 PM; map to the Lodge is at www.franklinlodge.org - click on the street address at the top to bring it up in Mapquest.

As promised, there will be a Mommy Cake there (same recipe as in the recipes thread). Please come down with a toy and say Hi. I look kinda like my avatar. :)
