Does your Town require you to place a sticker on your vehicle for Town regulated area’s or services?

Here’s my response to my towns new sticker placement requirement after I was told to rest assured that many committee, sub-committee, counsel, and special counsel meetings were held by town officials and determined that their sticker placement requirement was “OK”.
----------------------------------
The new Town sticker vehicle placement instructions with the new “relocated” to the lower corner of the driver’s side of the front windshield location, causes a distraction and obstructed vision blind spot which impedes the vision of the operator.

I believe that, the Town sticker placement requirement is in violation of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts General Laws, Part I, Title XIV, Chapter 90

Section 9D: Windshields and windows obscured by nontransparent materials

https://malegislature.gov/Laws/GeneralLaws/PartI/TitleXIV/Chapter90/Section9D

As stated in the referenced MGL, Violations of any provisions of this section shall be punishable by a fine of not more than two hundred and fifty dollars. Upon a third or subsequent conviction of a violation of the provisions of this section, the registrar shall suspend the operator's license of a person so convicted for a period not to exceed ninety days.

Pictures of my vehicle show that the obstruction caused by the Town sticker in the "New" location is a 12” square blind spot above the hood line at the front of my vehicle, and an 18” square blind spot at seven feet from the front of my vehicle. The blind spot projects an additional 6” width and height to the 18” square every additional seven feet. My seat is kept in the fully raised position.

The 3.75”W x 2.5”H DMV inspection sticker is 55” from my eye’s, and the new 3.25”W X 2.5”H sticker is 38” or 30% closer, to my eyes.

As specified in Massachusetts General Laws, Part I, Title XIV, Chapter 90, the only MA approved sticker placement location is in the windows behind the side windows immediately to the rear of the operator's seat. That’s usually the third little side widow to the rear.

A town sticker required area attendant recently informed me of the new sticker location requirement and handed me a copy of the instructions. The new requirement is also on the Towns web site. He said that the previous rear drivers side passenger window location made it difficult to see the sticker due to the large number of vehicles having factory tinted rear windows. The new sticker color, versus the previous sticker color, should make it easier for him to see the infrequently used sticker in the old location versus impeding the vision of the operator on a continuous basis.

Besides being in violation of Massachusetts General Laws, the subject sticker placement requirement places the vehicle operator and the Town at risk of being liable for any accident that may be determined to be associated with a violation of the referenced Massachusetts General Law.

As objective evidence, I request a copy of a waiver, if the Town has been issued a waiver to Massachusetts General Laws, Part I, Title XIV, Chapter 90 Section 9D by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for the specific Town sticker placement requirement.

I also had my previous sticker on the driver side rear door window removed during the summer of 2020 when I had service done by an authorized RMV inspection location.

Waiting for a response [popcorn]
Getting in an accident due to the new sticker and location, could be better than winning the lottery [rofl]

No sticker may be in the swept area of the wiper I was always told but I have no idea if that is law or not.
My Maine dump sticker goes on the lower left corner of the windshield and its as far down as it can go within reason and does not effect any visibility issues.
In MA the town says it goes on the drivers side front bumper. Well... I don't think so and I will not comply. My wife's cars and SUV's have never been on the bumper either, Driver's side rear door filler glass only for her. I've been putting it annually on the rear window of my truck for about 25 years when they first started them. The DPW honcho gave me shit about it once years ago and I more or less said screw you it's attached and visible. He never brought it up again. They only want it affixed to prevent swapping from car to car (skinflinting) or letting an out of town friend bring their shit into town.

Put it on an index card, laminate it with tape, and then put it at windshield when you drive up to dump or whatever etc. I just tell them I can’t keep it there for my work. Don’t want to be tracked back to my hometown by someone.

I tried that with my USCG parking sticker..worked at Base Boston, but the gate SPs at Norfolk were 100% unamused and confiscated it. F’ing squids.

Your town isn’t alone. That’s where my town and most others have you place the land fill sticker, etc.
I don’t have an issue with the location. It’s so low, that it’s not noticeable.

as said, if this your biggest problem god bless.
One of the town's people said that's where other towns have theirs's placed, so it must be ok [rofl]
I'll let their insurance carrier know next [rofl]

It wasn't noticeable on my last car, but it is on this one. Wife will not drive the car with the new sticker & location.
They have agreed to let me stick it somewhere else! I'm just taking a Bridgeport break.
Is this what retirement is like?
This is the kind of fun (💩) you can have when your retired.

Just use this: Sticker Shield®

$12 at Amazon. Lets you take the stickers on and off the windshield any time you want, swap between cars, loan to a friend, or anything else. I used it to keep the windshield tax stickers we needed to buy when driving through Europe.
In Falmouth they write your license plate # on the stickers so you can't get away with swapping or loaning, at least in theory. I don't think the kids manning the parking booth at the beach actually check however. The dump sticker has a bar code, and they scan it when you go in.

I have 10+ transfer station stickers on my windshield, so I can feel better about burning tires.

One year, one of the transfer station guys took a picture, because they change the color every year, but had no record of what colors they'd used.

I'm living and rolling history.

4 Wheel beach stickers were a favorite on my 76 chevy 3/4 ton with a truck camper. I miss those sparrow size green heads on sandy neck.

Twice, after the Pats won a superbowl, someone put a Brady Jersey on the Civil War Sailor in the center of town.
I'm not a Vet, history buff, or Jets fan, so I really don't give a shit. However, after another Superbowl has come and gone and that, now tattered, jersey is still on the statue, I take 10 mins to write an email.
Both times, it was resolved within a day.

I have stickers in 3 corners of my windshield, and I don't notice them.
How about the morons that drive around with the giant handicap parking placard? Take some of the time you would spend walking through the parking lot and allot it to putting the card up and taking it down.

The town will fart in your general direction.

I see it as a liability issue for the Towns', but that's an easy one for them, they just raise your property taxes to pay for any lawsuit payouts.
Their insurance carriers might think otherwise, which would protect the property owners from the property taxes being jacked up.

Same for the vehicle owner. One of those personal injury lawyers could jump all over someone for following a Towns' directive, which didn't have to be followed.

The day after I submitted my notice to the Town, I was promptly granted a waiver, and all attendants were notified.

Blind spots, LOL.

My 11th grade business law teacher
(who retired to AZ and joined Sheriff Joe's posse! [shocked] )
did not merely warn us callow youts that we think should twice
about sticking one of those translucent <name of college>
decals on our rear windows. Because cops have been pleased to
issue "obstructed vision" tickets for them.

He even warned us not to hang our HS graduation tassel from our rear-view mirror.
Because cops loved handing out obstructed vision tickets for that.[shocked]

"Your Honor, defendant killed a dozen nuns escorting two dozen kindergartners
because his vision was obscured by the frayed piece of string that he negligently dangled
from his rear view mirror, thus blocking his view of the entire crosswalk".

if this were a sticker to use a town beach parking lot they'd be 5 or 6 from prior years still on the window no problem.

This belongs in the thread about state inspections.

A sticker is required to get access to the town's recycling center / trash drop-off location. It's supposed to be located on the driver's winder, lower right hand side.

From the COVID Mask treads, complying with something you don't want to, or many not have to, and disparaging others that do not comply is Karen-ish.

I choose not to comply and provided objective evidence of why. Feel free to liberally apply the MGL reference and text with your town. A hanging placard recommendation was accepted as an exception for me. I'd like to ultimately see a camera based plate reader system used by the tolls. That way the town and state can hit you with a fee (win-win for them), and if the vehicle or operator (via facial recognition and plate) has any outstanding issues, the term "Transfer Station" can be more literally applied.
