That video does not portray Mr. Stewart in a very positive light. He may want to get his affairs in order.

I will say that if you watch the video from the time Ward walks onto the track until the contact is made, 5 other cars were able to avoid contact. To me it's a huge and tragic coincidence that the driver to hit him was the same driver that had just wrecked him seconds ago, if indeed it is a coincidence.

    Yeah.

What was Tony doing to hit this guy? Like you said, EVERY OTHER DRIVER that passed him, avoided him just fine. Wouldn't surprise me if bad ass Tony tried to scare him a bit more, and instead he killed the poor kid.

Just like people in baseball who throw balls at hitters heads, etc.

    Bunch of retards.

I took the delay in the swerve as sort of a brush back move if you will. Kick the back out as you pass and throw some dirt or scare him. But again what do I know. Never watch nascar and wouldn't know these dudes if they showed up to drop off my next pizza.

The guy jumped out of a safe but wrecked vehicle to point at another driver? Then he compounded that moment of stupidity by running into race traffic on what appears to be a poorly lit and dusty dirt track? The outcome seemed preordained to me... I don't claim to know the physics of striking a human at speed but I'm guessing the swerve is the vehicles reaction to striking the idiot driver.

Looked to me like that stupid kid went into Stewarts line of travel and Stewart had to goose it to try and avoid him.Sprint cars don't turn like a normal car so that was really the only option Stewart had to tray and avoid the kid,it just didn't work out.If he would have tried to steer out of the way,his rear end would have smashed the kid.

That video is zoomed in too far to see what the cars were doing beforehand, and that guy was stupid to get out of his and walk into traffic.

There's not a ton of control on dirt, it's mostly controlling a slide and you'd have to see way ahead in the corner to try and judge intention. Maybe there's a better video out there.

I think they were both trying to be tough guys and let their anger get the best of them. That's just my guess because of experience on the road... Road rage is funny because some people get sooooo mad for the dumbest reasons.

At the same time, he was wearing really dark clothing..

Good job guys, NES CSI with the worst angle video imaginable, no witness statements, no onsite evidence.

not defending tony not a nascar fan. but this other guy CLEARLY walked out onto the track into the path of the cars. not like "hey look he has his back turned let me hit him" anytime you get into those cars the chance of death is real..... and even greater chance when your walking head on to the other race cars.

Given Tony and his previous acts of aggression on the track this doesn't surprise me. Anyone who watches that and doesn't realize that he juiced it right as he got to him is being naive. You can hear it plain as day and that throttle along with how the car reacts is in exact sync with what would happen if you tag the gas a bit. Whether he was trying to kick dirt at him, or scare him a bit is what I would suspect, but unfortunately he killed him. At minimum he should be banned from racing.

A pretty decent quote from the video comments:

What is difficult about this is his past history of threatening to run guys over, run them into the wall or beat the shit out of them. You pair that up with this video and the sound of throttle and everything that happens and it's tough not to think that he did it intentionally. I know past transgressions shouldn't matter now, but unfortunately they do in this instance. I've driven stock cars and while not the same as a sprint car, they are not difficult to get squirrely given the power. The way I see that video he intended to scare the kid or spray dirt at him. I'm not buying the he didn't see him bullshit either, he was high on the track to begin with.

The worst part about all this is a young man died and because his anger got the best of him.

Even in crapcan racing like the LeMons series, drivers involved in a crash are instructed not to exit their vehicle until marshals arrive (barring fire, of course).

Mr. Ward is unfortunately responsible for what happened.

I disagree with everything you have said but the bolded. If he had kept is anger in check and stayed in his vehicle he would still be alive today.

From that video, I think he tried to bump him, scare him intentionally and went to far. I don't think he tried to kill him or hit him directly.

Stewart saying he's racing today with the team saying "business an usually". Wtf? Skip the race and get a clue.

The other cars got around him just fine without "goosing" the throttle.....

So when are all of the armchair witnesses flying out to give their testimony?

Can you take pitch forks and torches on an airplane?

So having an opinion based on the evidence at hand is not allowed here?

I think all of the opinion is based on personal hate/like of the guy based on his previous racing and nothing to do with the [lack of] evidence at hand. So far he is guilty before he has even been charged.

It sounds like another episode of "When Keeping it Real Goes Wrong". NES-folk should view this as another proof that you should do real life scenario training so that when things go sideways and your adrenaline is pumping, you don't do something that gets you or your family killed.

And no, i didn't watch the video because I don't get my rocks off on snuff films.
