Time to Arm Airline Passengers?

We will never get attacked again via hijacked airliners.

Al Quaeda already threw that page off their book. It's on to bigger and better things.

My bet is a large public gathering during a festive occasion.

Don't forget to pack a six shooter with an empty chamber under the hammer, since broccoli weirdo said that's all you'll ever need and you are a crazy, crazy man for wanting more ammo than that.

[rofl]

Today, it's Muslims. Tomorrow, it might be the Irish again, or the Chinese, or the Dutch. No matter how hard you search, and who you profile, you'll never be safe. All you'll be is less free.

Could you please show me the last time any of those races attacked us, more specifically using airplanes? it is muslims as and will continue to be muslims for decades to come. Profiling muslims will most certainly make flying safer, not that I consider it unsafe as of now.

A little walk through the past for those of you too young to remember.

Before the mid 60's nobody had really bothered making the effort to hijack an airliner. Passengers were free to take their unloaded hunting rifles or (where laws allowed CCW) their loaded handguns on any passenger plane in the country. People carried on planes every day, both crew and passengers, and there was never a single instance of any armed passenger ever causing any problems. There are however at least a couple of documented instances of armed crew and/or passengers subduing people intent on causing trouble without any undesirable "collateral damage".

Then we started getting US commercial flights hijacked on a regular basis, almost all of the "take this plane to Cuba" variety. In their infinite wisdom, the gubment decided to step in and fix a non-problem. They were concerned that sooner or later one of these wack-jobs was going to run up against an armed crew member or passenger, and someone might get hurt, so they decided to bad carry on planes. This tended to be more of a nuisance than a serious problem as long as the hijackers were content to force the planes to land in Havana or some other non-scheduled location. People had their trips delayed for a day or two until the nut got off the plane, and the plane got serviced and refueled, and possibly a new crew was flown in to fly the plane to its original destination.

Then about nine years ago, some Islamo-loons took control of several airliners with distinctly different intentions than previous hijackers, who tended to be content with an illegal trip to Havana, or a press conference in Tripoli, and maybe murdering a US serviceman or a Jewish passenger on the flight. Suddenly the strategy of "give 'em what they want and (almost) nobody will get hurt" didn't seem to be so good any more.

But, hey, we're talking about the gubment here, not some bunch of clear-thinking rational private citizens. So there was no bleepin' way they were going to admit even tacitly that their earlier decision might not be the perfect approach under the new circumstances. No, siree Bob, they weren't going to admit anything of the kind. Instead they decided to double down a hard 14. Not only were they going to keep everybody safe by enforcing their earlier police of prohibiting passengers from carrying guns even more vigorous, they were going to add manicure scissors, plastic knitting needles and even pointed sticks (soon to be followed by fresh fruit). When uppity dissenters demanded that airline pilots (many of whom flew armed military aircraft one weekend a month) be trusted to carry handguns, the gubment decided to show people just who was in charge by devising the most burdensome, expensive and inefficient training system known to mankind, insisting on a bizarre and dangerous method of carrying and storing firearms, and requiring any crew still not deterred from applying to risk losing their job as a result of needless and biased psychological testing requirements.

And somebody actually thinks that they're going to let some tea-bagging commoner carry a gun on THEIR TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM, just because it would almost certainly work? Well think again!
