I was getting ready to go to work and my girlfriend had on the Today show or one of those national morning shows , and they were discussing person of the year. The finalists according to Time are Obama, Hilary Clinton, the God Particle physicist, Tim Cook, Female CEO of Yahoo and get ready....the undocumented illegal immigrant. Really????

Time's PoTY is never the most deserving person, it's clear their editorial board chooses the winner based solely on how it will drive sales of that issue of the magazine.

Their online poll was less biased than this, even with 4Chan rigging the results to put Kim Jong-un on top.

Update:

The people have spoken. Miley Cyrus is currently leading the annual Time magazine readers poll to find the 2013 "Person of the Year."

Readers are overwhelming voting for the 21-year-old singer for the accolade. She has garnered more than double the votes of second place contender Edward Snowden, the controversial former CIA computer expert who famously leaked classified documents.

In third place is Indian politician Narendra Modi, followed by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Putin, for sheer FU attitude, or miley for pure teen lust, would be my choices

Time released the names of five finalists: Edward Snowden, Syrian President Assad, Edith Windsor (challenged Defense of Marriage Act), Senator Ted Cruz (????), and Pope Francis.

Snowden for obvious reasons.

Or Putin for doing more to stop the US from going to war than our own President did.

Snowden, because Time's POTY's really about selling print magazines to people over 50

Snowden is really the only one listed who actually had a serious choice to make, and a major sacrifice in how he chose. The other candidates were pretty much just following their archetype like characters in a bad novel.

Putin would have been a better option, even if he is just a Bond villain from one of the lesser films.

Have you picked up an actual Time magazine lately? The thickness of it is a good indicator of how relevant the magazine is these days. Further, over the last year they've been absolutely fawning over Bloomberg (probably trying to be bought).

This^ Magazines and newspapers are are a dying business. The only downfall will be the bird cage liners and puppy poop pads.
