'Throne Down': Over 60 Latin King Gang Members Arrested in Mass.

One of the arrested was "Vincent Dzierwinski - a/k/a 'Vice'". Not an Irish name, but they do seem to be an equal opportunity employer.

Maybe some of these gangs are getting more diverse, pulling a page from the old "Murder, Inc" etc. (who would have ever thought that there would be a collaboration between Italian and Jewish mobsters..... probably why they did it!)

They have a lot more work to do since there are over 100 active gangs in the greater Boston area with about 3000 active members. It’s too bad the effort to get MS13 and the LKs to fight each other and wipe each other out didn’t happen. They are two of the worst. The make up of gangs today is much different than 30 years ago, they are almost 97% non white and not so surprising 99% male. Not sure you ever get rid of gangs rather try to control their impact or push them out to other areas

What an insensitive post! [slap]

Especially, when the article mentions some Queen occupying an executive position in this hardworking enterprise.

You see gang members, we, citizens of The Commonwealth of Massachusetts, see the impact global warming has on our close to the ocean community. We also see that if we will invest more money into educating our prison population we can prevent confused majority in this state to stray and play with drugs and guns. They may all become lawyers, doctors or clock makers!

My only disagreement is with your point on clockmakers. That industry was stolen by the Swiss years ago :)

Maybe she doesn't realize, or more likely doesn't care, that polar bear populations have increased since the 1970s.

If only they ate illegals.

This Century Yugo in the mix certainly wasn't purchased in MA. I guess the AG can't control criminals, but is happy to take them away from tax payers.

Good job now they need to just do it every week for a few years.

The problem is, they don't. My theory, as to why, is this. They acted, because there were assets to seize. Unless there are assets to seize, those people arrested are only going to cost the Government money ( trial, incarceration, etc.). Also the risk of someone getting hurt during the arrest. It is easier and more profitable to go after the normally law abiding, they will usually pay the fines and court costs, with little cost to Government and low risk of any harm. I could be wrong, it's just a theory.

It takes almost a year, or longer, to put together a case like this. Most of the investigative agents arrest '10's' of people before they retire for serious crimes. I used to think they were just lazy, but that's not really the case. Multiple layers of supervision have to sign off on something like this. Then it goes to the US Attorney's office, where the same thing happens. In the mean time something 'important' comes up, like protection during the election season, and all the manpower goes on detail for 6 months. They get back from the 6 month detail, start working on the 'big' case and all the players have changed (dead, or moved away).

Start over, step one. Working with these types of people was, unfortunately, a let down. I've worked for months to help put together a solid case, only to have the case implode due to something dramatic changing and having to start over.

You have just posted yet another reason for a concealed carry.

A good point. IMHO, LK's not the worst and at least in Worcester seem pretty self contained. Virtually all the bad sh!t is happening to rivals, rats, etc. At least from what I have heard about LK's in Worcester, they mostly have family roots in the area and are not particularly a gang for 'illegals'.

When a vacuum is created by a large scale bust such as this, it's foolish to think that space won't be quickly filled. Action / reaction. And what is the likely reaction scenario? Will the MS-13 animals fill the void? Likely scenario in NJ and NY. Could get interesting- not that I really care about those states but it will be much more likely for 'civilians' to be impacted.

What's the best approach? Carpet bomb any gang's leadership & membership whenever you can, or simply try to manage the problem by prioritizing removal of the the worst elements- even if that means some tolerance of the 'less worse'?

NCJRS abstract:

The Latin Kings began in the 1940's in Chicago to help protect Latin people. Luis Felipe, who became a Latin King in Chicago, founded the Latin Kings in New York State on January 20, 1986, while he was serving time in the Collins Correctional Facility. After 2 months, there were over 60 members of the Latin Kings, including four body guards for the first crown, King Blood. The first action planned was a quick, brutal, and successful war with the Muslims. The Latin Kings of New York and their sub-chapter, the New Jersey Latin Kings, view Central New Jersey as prime land for their version of "Manifest Destiny." The Latin Kings have become one of the most powerful street and prison gangs in this region of the Nation. The best estimate for Latin Kings in New York City is between 2,000 and 5,000. Connecticut has approximately 8,000. There is no figure for New Jersey. The Latin Kings are a criminal enterprise, a drug-dealing gang that is intent on gaining wealth and power any way they can, including murder. Appended documents of the Latin Kings

Note: Howie contends that the man, on trial now, accused of killing the two doctors in S. Boston, was allowed to plead down to misdemeanor charges for TWO bank robberies so he would not be deported due to being a felon. Think the DA owes the family of the doctors at least an apology.

He owes them a life.
An honorable person would kill themselves.

Two high-ranking brothers of the Latin Kings oversaw brutal beatings and attempted murders in New Bedford as a bloody gang war escalated with the death of a teenager in October, a prosecutor and gang task force agent said in a detention hearing Monday.
Michael Alvarado, a gang task force agent, called the New Bedford Latin Kings chapter led by the “Inca,” Jose Rodriguez, the most organized in the state with over 50 members and a large-scale narcotics trafficking network.
Days after Latin Kings recruit 17-year-old Paul Collazo-Ruiz was gunned down near one of the gang’s trap houses, members were asked in a secretly recorded meeting “if they were ready for war” against the rival Gangster Disciples as Rodriguez and his brother Jorge gave marching orders, Alvarado said in U.S. District Court.
“Stop calling me and move on them,” Jose Rodriguez allegedly told a room full of Latin Kings members in the video shown to the courtroom.

Jorge Rodriguez, the Latin Kings’ statewide second-in-command, also ordered the gang to avoid phone conversations because anyone in a group would be lumped into a racketeering charge.
“We don’t want to do that, because it’s organized crime, understand!” stated a voice on the video alleged to be Jorge Rodriguez’s.
Jose Rodriguez and New Bedford foot soldier Josue Carrasquillo pleaded not guilty to racketeering charges and their lengthy detention hearing ended Monday evening without a ruling.
Carrasquillo participated in two shootings of gang foes this year in New Bedford and robbed a convenience store in June with knowledge of the owner “for insurance proceeds,” a prosecutor said, citing a 190-page affidavit.
Jose Rodriguez also joined in at least two recorded beatings, captured in one video standing over a “visibly unconscious” Latin King who broke an internal rule, and is a prolific cocaine cook and distributor, Alvarado said.

The landlord of three alleged trap houses in New Bedford, Robert Avitabile, also pleaded not guilty to racketeering charges Monday and was reprimanded twice by Magistrate Judge M. Page Kelley for speaking aloud while she and a prosecutor were talking in the hearing.
“I really need you to listen to what I’m saying,” Kelley ordered Avitabile, who apologized.
Avitabile’s assigned lawyer also escorted a supporter of the defendants watching the hearings out in a break after the woman loudly told a man sitting behind her several times to not touch her.
The gang’s top East Coast advisor, Esther Ortiz, is among two more Latin Kings associates to be arraigned Tuesday in federal court.
