Thoughts on Range Bags

Unfortunately, I don't have three full sized pistols so I couldn't answer that.

Thanks, I suppose it doesn't really matter because I wouldn't typically bring three with me anyway.

Like I wrote earlier, when I take a bunch of pistols with me to the range they travel in my hard sided pistol case:

The range bag carries everything else so it is less important that I be able to fit half a dozen pistols in it.

I bought the right range bag back in 1993 and it is still holding up!
Buy once, cry once!

don't leave us hanging, bro. What did you buy?

Being a cheap bastage, I repurposed a small suitcase several years ago and have been using that. the pocket configuration is really not optimal, and I am looking for a new bag.

One thing I like about the suitcase is the lockable zippers with the rings, as opposed to having to slide the lock through the zipper pull tabs. Buying over the interwebs, it's hard to see whether any range bags actually have this feature. But a lockable compartment is a must.

I gave up on dedicated range bags and switched to tool bags several years ago. The tool bags are cheaper so I can have several for different guns/calibers. More recently I switched to a hard plastic tool box for matches. The interior fits three removable Akro bins to organize mags, ammo and accessories. The hard box is not as easy to carry so I have also adopted a folding range cart.

These carts are getting so popular that there may be "parking problems" at the stages.

That's a nice case for sure. Like I said though, I won't likely bring more than a couple of guns at a time. I only have a few and I typically only bring one or two with me.

I decided to go the backpack route. A little more pricey than some of those listed, but it was actually on sale a few hours ago for $20 less with free shipping, so it really only ended up being $25 more than the best price I could find for the GPS. Plus it's not too Tactical looking so a little more low key and it's lockable. It doesn't have all of the designated pouches for everything, but that's okay too. I also like that the waist strap can be removed. What I don't like and didn't realize until after I ordered it is that it's not made in the US. For some reason I thought Maxpedition was US made.

I'll probably kick myself in a year and just start using a Home Depot 5 Gallon bucket.

I also use a Seahorse hard case and love it. Frees up my range bag for all my holsters and other gear. I have a slightly different model, below is a link.

There's 2 issues here. (1) going to the range, setting up and shooting some targets with all your other stuff in the truck.
(2) going to a match, dragging your gear between 6 stages/pits in the summer sun and having everything you might need since your truck is a 1/2 mile away.

This is why I switched to the big plastic tool box (Bostitch) and the range cart. The tool box holds all I need to shoot the match and the range cart has enough room left over for tools and necessities like soda and water.

PS The range cart has enough room to hold my 22 rimfire rifle for steel matches.

Here's my range box. It was my first toolbox I got as a kid. Not ideal but works for now.

I haven't figured out storage and transportation of targets though.
