Scenario-Based Training (SBT)

Course Description:
Weaponcraft, through a pilot program with FX Simunition® from General
Dynamics Corp, is now offering “Reality Based Training” to civilians.
Scenario-Based Training (SBT), including split second decision making and
non-lethal force-on-force live fire, is the best way for students to learn the
realities of how they as individuals react to life threatening encounters.
From the lessons learned, students can then begin to adjust their mindset
and actions/reactions to better survive a potentially lethal attack.
SBT-1 has no prerequisite classes. It is open to anyone interested in
personal defensive use of a firearm. After a review of firearms safety and
laws pertaining to justified use of lethal force, students are briefed on FX
Simunition® Reality-based Training and how it is used to identify individuals’
reactions to stress and to teach responsible decision making and best
practices/tactics of defensive gun fighting. The majority of the class is
spent participating in 12-15 live scenarios where the student has to
make decisions and react to a variety of situations with real ‘bad guys’.
Scenarios are video taped and played back for debriefing, giving the
students a third party view of their reactions and decisions. Instructors
work closely with students to improve upon tactics and decision making.
This course is designed to fully benefit students of all skill and experience
levels. Protective gear, ammunition and Simunition® weapons are provided
as part of the course tuition.

Simunition® is a firearm/ammunition/protective gear system that will
only fire appropriate ammunition. There are both dedicated ‘Sim’ guns
and conversion kits for a number of standard firearms. Projectiles are made
from compressed laundry detergent that is saturated with dye and jacketed
with soft plastic. The very light projectile is propelled by the funneled charge
of the primer in handguns (all .38/9mm) and a combination of the primer
and a small amount of powder in the 5.56 rifle round. Rounds will not
chamber in normal firearms and normal rounds will not chamber in
Simunition® guns or conversion kits. While the rounds hurt enough (when
striking body parts covered in only a thin clothing layer) to create stress
and encourage avoidance of being hit, they are not lethal. Protective gear
softens the blows and can be worn to avoid bruising and minor abrasion
wounds. While athletic cup, chest protectors, heavy sweatshirts and
gloves are recommended, a Simunition® full-face helmet and throat
protector are always required!
