THE HOUSE LOVES ITS GUNS!
As the US House of Representatives raced to leave town for the November elections, the Republican leadership pushed a piece of legislation that gun control advocates say would make it much harder for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to punish gun dealers who violate federal firearms laws.

The bill, among many other things, would require the Attorney General to notify federal firearm license applicants in writing if the government intended to deny a license application and those who received that letter of denial would have the right to a hearing to appeal the Attorney General's decision.

The legislation had so much support it was considered under something called 'suspension of the rules' which limits debate to just 40 minutes, doesn't permit amendments and requires a two-thirds majority vote to pass. It got that with most House Republicans supporting it in addition to 63 Democrats.

While dangerous men armed with shotguns, rifles and semiautomatic pistols are taking young school girls hostage and shooting them to death, the House bill will make it easier to sell and buy guns.

The Senate has not taken up the house passed measure - at least not yet . Last week the Senate was busy passing a bill to build fences along the border to keep illegals out of the country.

Maybe the house and senate should consider building fences around our schools!

What did the Feds do before..just take the apps money and ignore them?

And you're all right...this guy is a real maroon. Sounds like he doesn't want the Mexican fence either.

why is it that these columnists always write using their anti-gun views and noone ever takes that stance that the individual BROKE THE LAW!!!!

The guns are bad here and the guy was misguided or abused as a child....What the F##k!!!!!

He was a murdering pedophile!!!!! I don't care if he had a .357 magnum or a sling shot. He's a MURDERER!!!!!!

Our entire MA congressional delegation voted against this legislation. Let's pay attention to the Federal races this election season. Only 3 of our 10 congressmen are being challenged. If you live on the North Shore you are in John Tierney's district, he is being challenged by Rick Barton, www.rickbarton.us He is rated 100% by GOAL, receives an "A" from the NRA, and has 2 letters posted on GOAL's website relating to the Second Amendment. If you are on the South Shore Jeff Beatty is running against Bill Delahunt, and if you live in John Olver's district, he is challengeg by Billy Szych. It is up to us to send to Congress who we want to represent our interests. Spread the word, donate, volunteer, display a lawn sign or bumper sticker, but get involved. It won't happen unless we help.

Fact and rationality are foreign concepts in the minds of "journalists". They write what sells and what promotes their myopic agenda.

Stop funding their newspapers.

Feinstein pulled some procedural BS not too long ago that will put this bill on "hold" (and this was before the incident in PA).

Unfortunately, given the timing of the vote and the recent school shootings, it's unlikely that we'll have the 60 Senators necessary to bring it to the floor for a vote. A similar situation occurred a few years ago when the firearms manufacturers immunity legislation was pulled because it coincided with the Washington DC/beltway shootings...

Senator blocks action on gun dealer legislation

WASHINGTON – Sen. Dianne Feinstein said Thursday she would block the Senate from taking up a House-passed bill that would change how the government handles gun dealer violations.

The House on Wednesday voted 277-131 in favor of the legislation to change how the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, or ATF, pursues gun dealer violations.

“This legislation would make it difficult, if not impossible, for the ATF to penalize gun dealers who have broken the law, and to prevent rogue dealers from continuing to sell guns,” Feinstein, D-Calif., said in a statement.

A single senator can put a “hold” on legislation, preventing it from being offered on the floor without the approval of 60 senators.

The legislation differentiates penalties based on the seriousness of the violation and the size of the firearm business. It requires that any ATF decision on a dealer's license be reviewed by an administrative law judge.

Rep. Howard Coble, R-N.C., who sponsored the House bill, said it would give the ATF greater flexibility to deal appropriately with minor violations while going after gun dealers who are breaking the law. “Despite what the critics said,” Coble said in a statement, “our bill puts additional muscle in the arm of the ATF.”

But Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-N.Y., a leading gun control advocate, said the bill would make it harder to revoke the licenses of corrupt and negligent gun dealers. “Even if the ATF is able to revoke a corrupt gun dealer's license, this bill gives the dealer 60 days to sell off his remaining inventory. This defies common sense,” she said.

The ATF bill was part of the House GOP's “American Values Agenda” announced last June which included flag protection, a ban on gay marriage, a ban on human cloning and tax cuts.
