Cops: Texas man brought loaded gun to NY airport

Authorities say a man from a Texas town called Gun Barrel City was caught with a loaded revolver in his carry-on bag at New York City's LaGuardia Airport.

Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police said Friday that security officers noticed the handgun as Douglas A. White went through a security screening Thursday.

Police say the 61-year-old White was charged with criminal possession of a loaded firearm.

I bet he's wishing he never heard of New York right now. [sad2]

Poor bastard welcome to obamas dream. New York the capitol of the United States Socialist Republic.

With all that's going on in the world you would think that he has enough common sense to not bring a Loaded gun on his carry on bag.

I wonder if he had it in his carry on bag on his flight from Gun Barrel City Airport to NY and they never checked, haha

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe he was on a private jet or something on the way out there, and the return flight you still have to go through all the same nonsense to leave. I just hope the guy didn't buy that there or something and he can return to Texas and get on with his life. It would also be nice if he lawyered up and Texas help give ny a big FU and lets this guy keep his guns.

Charles.

Maybe NY should adopt the flag of East Germany.

There are too many goddamn laws on the books. How are people supposed to be aware of every single one? I'm sure I broke plenty today.

Oh, wait. I definitely did.

What if you are avoiding NY as the plage, and your airplane all of the sudden Neeeds to stop in NY and you are forced to collect your belongings to board another plane. What then? Are you a forced criminal Because of circumstance?

Doesnt matter where he lives. He went to an occupied socialist territory. He should have known better.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse. So I must become a lawyer to understand all the states laws?
99% of lawyers don't know all the state laws.

Ideally there should be no guilt in Not knowing the local laws for guns, this is or was America, we should be able to go from one end of the country to the other with out having to read a hand book of laws from state to state ~

The Man did not know he could not bring a gun on a airplane or anywhere near NY for that matter, but still knew better then to go to NY unarmed, that should tell you something about the state right there

You dont touch the bag. You call security to transfer it. You touch it , you are now in possession and if you dont have the proper license in NY you are gonna get bent over. Been there and done it, told them they could take possession and transfer it, I wasnt touching it. They complied

Even flown with a gun in states outside of the NE? I have. Most of the time they don't want to even bother looking at your firearm. I've declared places when checking luggage, got a hand wave and passed the orange ticket, done. No inspection, no signing anything. Here's you're stupid orange piece of paper the TSA requires we give you, have a nice flight.

Most of the country is not like MA.

This. Refuse to take possession. Tell them why. They will hold the bag for you or have it shipped to your final destination.

DO NOT TOUCH THE BAG.

Already happened to a guy who got stuck in an unexpected extended layover in NJ.
He got arrested the next day at the airport when he declared his gun in his checked baggage.
Took him years and lots of $$$ to beat the charges and I don't believe he ever got his gun back.

I'm pretty certain you can't bring loaded handguns into airports in Texas either. Feel sorry for the dude, but he should have known better.

Exactly, it has nothing to do with being a lawyer and knowing the laws in every state. At some point common sense has to kick in and you have to ask yourself "hmm I'm going to a notoriously anti gun state, I'd better look into that before I go there."

Also courts have maintained that ignorance of the law is no excuse. I learned that many years and it has been a legal theory since the Roman Empire.

This, and it doesn't matter if you live in a 'Free' state or not, only a complete idiot tries to bring a loaded weapon through airport security.

Of course the guy really should have known better, but that don't really excuse the point about guns laws being just a cluster F ~

I know, because he probably would have tried to kill somebody right?

Yeah the laws have been there forever. What have they don't to prevent hijackings? Nothing... If hijackers know that there might be 20 dudes carrying guns on airplanes they might pick a different target. They might not, but guess what, if the flights on 9/11 had people carrying guns it might have been different. Well we all know IT WOULD HAVE BEEN DIFFERENT.

Archie was right:

Derek - Well, as you say, the laws have been there forever and like them or not they are well known. And maybe they have done something to prevent hijackings... other than the 9/11 flights I cant remember a single hijacking. I took a quick look on Wikipedia and the last passenger plane hijacked in the US prior to 9/11 was in 1987 and none since then. As far as having 20 dudes carrying guns on airplanes, from some of the folks I have seen a public ranges, I would be more worried about them shooting a hole in the side of the plane than preventing a hijacking.

Actually, if you look it up. There were quite a few hijackings during the '70s before air travel became "secure". The number of hi jacked airplanes dropped in the '80s and '90s when safety measures were implemented. Of course they couldn't leave well enough alone and now they've gone overboard.
