I want something a little more practical than the 2 door coupe that I have now (i.e. carrying my kids). I want something unique, fun and fuel efficient too. Also must handle NH winter roads better than my current car....

Call me crazy...but the Nissan Juke SL has caught my eye. Certainly the looks aren't for everyone, but I actually like them!!! [shocked]

Ask Zappa about those, I think that's one of his favorite vehicles.

I would personally rather drive a Mini Cooper with the british flag on the hood and a rainbow sticker on the back bumpre before I would gt a Juke...but that's just me. Get a Jeep Cherokee, and don't look back.

Gas mileage is the killer for most of the 4WD/AWD trucks and beefier cars out there.

Subie sedans aren't unique - heck, they are boring to look at - but they're perfect for 4, and with AWD and 170HP, a pretty darn good drive. There's also turbo and 6cyl models - over 250hp - for a pretty awesome drive, but worse mileage.

I've got a 4Runner. He said fuel efficient. I get around 15 mpg. The 2010 4Runner is more efficient -- reported average seems to be around 18 mpg.

In other words, the 4Runner is a gas pig.
Wow my "96/99 and 00" all gen 3, 4 runners 3.4 /6 cyl were better than my current vehicle, Together they averaged 22.4mpg.
light foot, ac use at extremes only .

Heck yeah, if mileage and $ weren't issues, I'd suggest a Toyota FJ Cruiser. But 17/21 isn't exactly rockin' on the mileage front.

Mine is an '03, with a 4.7l V8 and fulltime 4WD. It weighs almost 1000 lbs more than your 2nd gen. And I commute on the Pike in stop-and-don't-go traffic to Cambridge 5 days a week.

Try a Ford Fusion AWD - certainly loses some mileage over the standard model due to the AWD, but still respectable. Or maybe an Escape.

mazda CX-7. all the spunk of a sporty car (very similar engine as the speed3) in a small suv package. Im a huge fan.
EPA estimate for mpg is 20/28.

The Juke is awesome...AWD or FWD and even has a turbo for when you want itsome get up and go!! Nissan can't make them fast enough, limited supply at the dealers right now.

You either love it or hate...I love it.

Good luck!

Another vote for Subaru. Not flashy, but great cars for New England. Good on gas, great in the snow, lots of room for stuff.

I just looked at the specs on the Juke (which I don't hate). It weighs 3200lbs and has a 1.6L direct injected turbo with 188hp and 177lb of torque. I don't think it's going to perform that well.

As mentioned above, look at the CX5.

???

Sheesh. 3200 lbs is pretty light and 188 hp is quite a bit. And 0 - 60 in 7.0 seconds isn't "perform[ing] that well?"

So, you think that the 153 hp, 148 ft-lb 3400 lb CX5 will perform better than the 188 hp, 177 ft-lb 3200 Juke?????????? Really??????? http://mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/displayPage.action?pageParameter=modelsSpecs&vehicleCode=MZ5

I can't stand the styling of the Juke, but come on. There's plenty of reasons to criticize the Juke, but performance is not one of them.

I meant to say CX7 which is available with a turbo that puts out 244hp. Also, 188hp is respectable for a 1.6L but it's going to have lag.

The point wasn't that 3200lbs is or isn't light but that a 1.6L turbo isn't the greatest match for that and that these days, 0-60 in 7s isn't impressive.
