Things to do in Las Vegas?

Shop is cool since you just walk in, look around, think "Is this it?" and leave. All the recognizable folks work in the back room now since they do not want to waste time dealing with fanboys.
my buddy still talks about the time he was there ~ 6 years ago and the old man materialized out of no where and did a mini meet & greet for a few minutes. fun to hear how the story morphed into a tale of how the two are best buds and spent some quality time together. [laugh]

I've never been, but Vegas is a degenerate shithole town that has no natural reason to exist. I don't see myself ever setting foot there, but if i happen upon the place I'll do a couple things. 1, Go to the ranges that rent out MGS and have some fun, then 2, get out of town and wander/ scavenge around in the desert, hitting up any historically significant places/ relics that may cross my path.

oh, please....you're not one of those fools that show up at my door in a suit toting a briefcase trying to get me to follow the light at the end of the path that leads to jesus christ are you?

The wife and I discussed doing the flyover. I think we're probably going to do that. Though being a geologist, I'd love to see it up close. Looks like it's a 4+ hour drive each way from Vegas? Hmmm

I didn't use a tour company, but one time I went I hired a flight instructor and got checked out in a 172RG so I could fly myself to Grand Canyon rim airport and over Hoover Dam.

The other times I went to Vegas, whatever happened, I can't talk about...

They hot? Book your room and hang sign. Limp out of room before checkout and keep the grin to yourself. What happens in Vegas...

Freemont Street at Night
The Mall in the Venitian
All the free shows(Bellagio,Treasure Island etc.etc)
Janet Aircraft
Hoover Dam
Grand Canyon

If you've never been then get to Fremont street at night... check out the bellagio fountains and the pirate show at treasure island.

I never leave the craps tables when I'm there

Battlefield Vegas. Rent machine guns. Have fun!

Binions Steak House on Fremont Street. Yum!

Hoover Dam - bus tour from the strip and back. https://www.groupon.com/deals/hoover-dam-tour-company-3 or http://grandcanyontours.com/bushd.html

Cirque du Soleil - Those ticket places have some discounts, not great deals but ok. There are like a dozen different shows and not it's not cheap, but you can't see these most anywhere else.

Neon Graveyard: http://www.neonmuseum.org/ This was on my list but we didn't go.

Check out Groupon in the area. We found one for the CSI Experience that made it worth going, but would not have paid sticker price. Also booked the Hover Dam tour.

Hofbrauhaus (good beer and German food): http://www.hofbrauhauslasvegas.com/

Free: Just walking through the lobbies, casinos, and shopping areas of the hotels to look at the buildings and people.

There's a whorehouse museum in Pahrump.

Not far past that (by Western US standards) is Amargosa Valley and Death Valley. On the other side of Death Valley is Panamint Valley where Charles Manson's compound was. That's all old mining country so lots of ghost towns.

Ok so if you want the most mindblowing restaurant experience...

TAO

holy mother****ing shit. everything is 10/10. amazing atmosphere. food is out of this world (and looks like a magazine shoot). They have a book of cocktails. My recommendation is to not eat all day (save appetitite and money) and be fed like a king. You want to take your time here.

Call for reservations way ahead of time and plan your day around it

I was stuck in LV in November for a work event a few years ago, and decided to climb Mummy Mountain. It's an 11k footer, just 30 minutes north of the city, with snow at the peak this time of year. If you're in halfway decent shape, it's a very reasonable day hike.

And generally if you're into outdoorsy stuff, avoid the crowds and heat at Red Rock Canyon, and head north to Mt Charleston Wilderness.

Are you at all a foodie? Vegas is a great foodie destination.

I just got back from a one week sales conference at Cesar's Palace. The food was freaking expensive and not that good.

- 3 beers and 6 chicken wings at Gordon Ramsey's British Pub - $68 + tip, the wings sucked

- Pork Sandwich and Fries at Bobby Flay's Mesa Restaurant, no drinks, $38 + tip and the fries were cold

-One well drink Vodka Tonic at the All American Bar - $15

One co-worker went to the Cesar's buffet, rated best in the world, $50 but lines for the expensive food like beef and seafood were 15-20 minutes long. For $75 you get to cut the line pissing off all the people who "only" paid $50 to get in.

I freaking hate the Casinos. Smoking, including stinky cigars, is allowed so budget $75 for dry cleaning to remove the smell from your clothes.

That's what I did. I had multiple helpings of shrimp cocktail and filet mignon the whole time. No breads or pastas. I never let buffets win.

If you like a good martini, stop by the Wynn. They're huge, ice cold, smooth and filled with blue cheese stuffed olives the size of golf balls.
