I've had my license for only two months and I've already bought my second gun. My first was a Beretta 92FS and last night I bought my first revolver. Rugar Single six 22LR/22MAG. I can't wait to go and shoot it! Does anyone have any experience with this revolver? Did I make a good choice?

Indeed you did. I picked one of the 9.5 inch versions up not that long ago. It's a sweet little gun. I tested several different ammos through it during my last range trip. I think they tend to like the 22 mag ammo a little more than the 22lr but it has good accuracy with both.

My wife and I got into shooting 3 years ago with a Ruger Single Six and a Ruger Bearcat ... both single action .22s. They are both great to shoot and are excellent starter revolvers. However, you'll probably soon want to "upgrade" to a double action revolver where the cylinder swings out to load and unload the cartridges, as it's easier and faster than a handling a single action gun. If you really like shooting .22, you might consider a Ruger Mark II or Mark III semi-automatic .22. We have a Mark III and it's a ball to shoot. There are often used Mark IIs and Mark IIIs available at gun shops for reasonable prices.

@Reloader, I'm almost positive that is the gun I shot the last time I was at the gun club. I was shooting really terrible with my Beretta 92FS and there was a gentleman there who was nice enough to call me over and give me a few pointers while letting me use his 22. It's extremely obvious that I'm a rookie so people are taking pity on me. I did like that gun and was tempted to get one of those but my fiance and I wanted a revolver and the Rugar Single six was highly recommended. I can't wait to shoot it this weekend! I'll keep an eye out for one of those at the next swap meet.

Indeed they are, I got back into shooting in january and picked up my first gun then, and have since added another 5 to the collection [smile]

Been slacking, trying to save money for an M1A

I shot my single six this weekend and I love it! We shot over 200 rounds. We also shot 20 rounds of the 22 magnums too. I really like shooting that gun! I also did a little better this week with my 9mm. Shooting a new gun and getting better makes so much more fun. Thanks for all the advice and yes, I'm now thinking of which gun I want next. I'm thinking about getting a rifle. [grin]

"Hello, I'm Kellyrobyn and I'm a gunaholic" [laugh]

Well ya got bit by the bug, ya made a great choice with the Ruger and it should provide you with a lot of happy hours on the range and it a great gun for learning the fundamentals of marksmanship.

Over the years, you will, no doubt, acquire other firearms, but I can't think of a better general purpose .22 handgun than the Ruger Single Six. The .22 Magnum is no slouch as a minor caliber personal protection round either (no kaliber wars, please, I'd take it over a .25 or maybe even a .32)

Now ya need to shell out your 21 bucks and go green !

Heh.

Sorry for the hijack. Reminiscing, that's all...

Yup welcome to the addiction. I started off thinking all I would need is a hand gun for cow a shot gun for home defence and a riffle for plinking. Well I got those and about half a dozen more in 2 years time.
